About the Department
The County of San Luis Obispo Health Agency is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic professional to lead the Systems Administration and Service Desk teams within the organization’s Information Technology division. This critical position will have the classification of Information Technology Supervisor and will report to the Information Technology Manager. Candidates should possess deep knowledge related to the implementation, operations, maintenance, and support of enterprise IT systems, ensuring low friction user interactions, and efficient service desk operations. This position is responsible for supervising a team of systems administrators and service desk staff, managing projects, providing guidance and support, and fostering a collaborative work environment. The Health Agency is a dynamic organization, which requires that professionals within the IT division effectively balance and prioritize their workload while working with many different stakeholder groups.
Some responsibilities include:
- Supervise and mentor systems administration and service desk teams
- Oversee systems administration and service desk operations

This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time throughout the County.
Position Duties
The ideal candidate has extensive leadership skills as well as a robust and holistic understanding of applied enterprise technology solutions, including systems administration, service desk operations, process improvement, and systems integration. Extensive experience with managing technology projects for large organizations and formal project management skills are also strongly desired. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of leading and motivating a team, have strong interpersonal skills, and excel at ensuring that stakeholders stay focused and outcome oriented.
Among others, the ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of the following: systems administration and service desk operations best practices; information technology service management (ITSM) concepts; enterprise technologies; project management; and organizational change management methodologies.
Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
Either A: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field. In addition, four years of experience in an information technology environment in any of the following fields: systems administration, systems engineering, software engineering, database administration, operating systems, network administration, radio communications, project management or a similar field in a multi-platform environment.
OR B: An associates degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university or completion from a job-related, accredited vocational institution. In addition, six years of experience in an information technology environment in any of the following fields: systems administration, systems engineering, software engineering, database administration, operating systems, network administration, radio communications, project management or a similar field in a multi-platform environment.
Other Conditions of Employment:
Employees must be willing and able to respond to after-normal workday or irregular and on-call emergency requests on nights, weekends and holidays.
