Job Summary:

Coordination and management of Quality patient care on an inpatient units. Demonstrates knowledge, problem solving, innovation, communication, performance improvement and management. Oversees care delivery to insure patient and family satisfaction.

Job Duties:

  • Demonstrates the clinical knowledge and skill to provide supervision and management of specific ages and populations
  • Acts as role model by contributing at team meetings and participating in unit groups
  • Promotes environment in which patient care teams work cooperatively toward treatment goals
  • Monitors admissions to insure timely movement from PAS and quality orientation to the unit
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Hospital chains of command and consistently communicates as needed
  • Communicates staffing issues to the Director of Nursing Operations
  • Understands regulatory requirements (JCAHO, DOH) and insures units meet those requirements
  • Monitors compliance with psychiatric nursing standards of care by observation and feedback
  • Consistently insures efficient and effective use of time and effort of all personnel on the shift
  • Ensures quality of care is documented carefully in the medical record
  • Ensures a clean, safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, families and visitors
  • Assists in building referral sources in the community for the specialty unit
  • Communicates with staff regarding policy and procedure changes
  • Monitors budget expenses and utilizes staff supplies and materials cost effectively
  • Demonstrates ability to identify root cause of problems and proposes effective solutions.
  • Sets direction, organizes and encourages others to accomplish goals
  • Demonstrates ability to role model and provide consistent leadership to staff
  • Provides clear accurate and timely information to all staff
  • Promotes creativity and innovation on the part of others
  • Maintains excellent working relationships with MD�s ,patients, families and staff
  • Serves as role model relative to work ethic and behavior (i.e. Reliable, flexible, personal appearance)
  • Demonstrates consistency in performance and productivity
  • Works effectively and confidentially with others to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Organizes work to be effective and efficient
  • Supervises staff in problem solving and conflict management
  • Communicates and collaborates with other departments to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Participates with Unit Chief to obtain new sources of referrals and to maintain occupancy goals
  • Assesses staff performance and completes appraisals in a timely manner
  • Observes all general Hospital policies, guiding principles, rules and regulations
  • Participates in Hospital wide committees
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

  • Education: RN, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree in Health Care Field preferred
  • Training and Experience: Current RI license as RN
  • Four years experience in psychiatric nursing, at least two years management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership ability

Schedule: 32/64 Every Other Weekend / 3p-11:30p
