Job Summary:
The Commercial Lender (lender) serves customers by providing credit facilities according to Bank policies, standards, and procedures. The lender develops loan opportunities, interviews customers, analyzes credit metrics, determines creditworthiness, customizes loan solutions, closes loans, monitors loans, collects loans, and solicits additional business from qualified borrowers. The lender is goal driven and monitors progress toward goals on a periodic basis.
General Description/Duties:
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Actively participates in business development, public relations, and community engagement to generate new commercial lending opportunities.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Assists customers in applying for credit and other banking services.
- Interviews potential loan customers and collects and analyzes financial data and credit details to determine creditworthiness and loan request merits.
- Collaborates with credit analysts to fully underwrite and narrate credit facilities for approval in LoanVantage.
- Establishes and negotiates terms for credit facilities including project scope, repayment methods and collateral requirements.
- Utilizes the Risk Rating Tool and Loan Pricing Model to assign appropriate risk grades and determine competitive, profitable pricing.
- Prepares and presents complete loan packages and recommendations to the appropriate approval authority.
- Provides terms sheets and commitment letters to potential borrowers.
- Works closely with Loan Officer Assistants, Centralized Loan Processing, and legal counsel to ensure proper documentation and timely loan closings.
- Collects past due loans as well as overdrawn checking accounts within the loan portfolio.
- Manages maturing loans to ensure timely loan renewals.
- Manages portfolio growth by increasing average outstandings, net growth, loan fees, and net earnings.
- Refers business to ancillary business units within the bank.
- Monitors a monthly scorecard to assess goal progress in sales, credit quality, and referrals to ancillary business units.
- Ensures full compliance with all Federal and State banking and non-banking laws and regulations.
- Maintains current knowledge of industry regulations, requirements and trends by attending seminars, member associations and reading trade periodicals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven analytical skills with the ability to evaluate creditworthiness using financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, and other relevant data.
- Ability to assemble and write concise and coherent narratives for Loan Approval Forms.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to calculate and interpret financial ratios, cash flows, interest rates, and amortization schedules.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and persuasive loan narratives and approval presentations.
- Demonstrated success in business development and maintaining a productive sales pipeline.
- Sound judgment and the ability to make fair, objective, and fact-based credit decisions.
- Knowledge of applicable State, Federal and legal regulations and requirements.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with customers and team members.
- Demonstrated leadership, project management, team building, and time management skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and tactfully handle sensitive and confidential matters.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other related software.
- Professional presence and ability to present loan requests confidently in credit committee meetings.
