About the Department
Position Duties
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical and electronic circuit boards, telemetry systems, and other related equipment which monitor and control pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, and other apparatus and equipment in the Distribution and Collection system and the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF); programs logic control systems (PLC’s); installs conduit; coordinates contracted installation of equipment and inspects new installations.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on generators and bypass pumps associated with lift stations; schedules and oversees maintenance and repair; schedule preventive maintenance work and testing work performed by outside contractors; tests equipment on a regular schedule.
- Performs permit required confined space entries for repairs of pumps, limit switches, check valves, electronic actuator valves, flow meters, transducers, and related appurtenances.
- Plans and participates in regular preventive & predictive maintenance inspections such as inspecting and calibrating a wide variety of process equipment.
- Performs preventive and predictive maintenance on pumps, control panels, actuator valves, and related appurtenances.
- Troubleshoots, diagnose, and repairs parts or equipment due to failure; troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains the SCADA system including antennas on top of poles and elevated water storage tanks.
- Research and orders replacement parts using electronic requisitioning and purchasing system; obtains prices and quotes from various vendors and contractors; reviews invoices for accuracy; maintains necessary inventory on hand; provides input into annual budget requests.
- Calibrates and adjusts electronic flow instruments, pneumatic equipment, recorders, controllers, variable speed drives (VFD’s), sensors and meters.
- Maintains necessary records of work activities.
- Creates, completes, and reviews work orders.
- Reviews inventory and requests parts as well as purchase orders.
- Debugs process equipment; modifies existing equipment to new requirements; fabricates and installs SCADA controllers, metering, and service equipment; installs phone equipment, PLC’s software, and computer cabling.
- Installs and repairs VFD’s motorized valves, electrical and electronic panels.
- Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, track hoes, forklift, tractors, and other related equipment.
- Operates welding equipment as needed.
- Maintains records of preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Requests requisitions and POs for equipment and services.
- Reviews plans and specifications for new installations.
- Hires employees, trains employees, conducts performance evaluations and coaches’ employees on performance, provides motivation, communication and leadership to staff.
- Participates with disciplinary procedures and makes recommendations.
- Creates, completes, and reviews work orders.
- Performs related duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and properties of and the theory and application of electronic circuits.
- Considerable knowledge of related technology including hardware and software, electronic component troubleshooting and installation, and use and repair of process instrumentation and telemetry.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and properties of electricity as applied to water and sewer pumping equipment and processes.
- Considerable knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repair work.
- Working knowledge of general trades maintenance and repair work including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and mechanics.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work.
- Considerable knowledge of the tools, parts, and methods associated with diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment.
- Knowledge of the principles and procedures associated with wastewater treatment.
- Skill in the use and care of the tools of the trade.
- Ability to detect mechanical, electrical, or electronic malfunctioning of assigned equipment by testing, observation, sound, and chart readings, and to take proper remedial action.
- Ability to read and follow schematic drawings, blueprints, and written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Considerable knowledge in conflict resolution.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Vocational or Technical Electrical or Electronic field of study preferred.
- Licensure or Certification preferred; Collections 2 or Grade 2 WW Biological & Grade 2 Maintenance Tech.
Depending on the position, the Town may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
