Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Technician 

Classification: Exempt

Location: Rosemount, MN

Working Schedule: Full-time 


Position Overview:
The EHS Technician supports operations by assisting the EHS Manager to maintain and enhance environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations. This role will assist in implementing safety initiatives, conducting audits, and ensuring a safe working environment in an aluminum recycling and manufacturing plant. 


Compensation and Benefits:
The expected starting salary for this position is $65,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and position responsibility.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:


Environmental Compliance:

  • Monitor and manage waste disposal, air emissions, and water treatment processes to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, sampling, and reporting as required by local and federal agencies (EPA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Assist with hazardous materials handling, storage, and documentation.
  • Maintain and update environmental records, permits, and safety data sheets (SDS).

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and perform regular walks to enforce safety rules
  • Assist in developing and implementing safety procedures, policies, and training programs.
  • Support accident prevention programs, including PPE compliance, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and machine guarding.
  • Monitor air quality, noise levels, and other workplace conditions to ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Administer first aid and coordinate emergency response procedures when necessary.
  • Assist with ISO 45001 system management
  • Engage with employees on safety
  • Assist the management of workers compensation insurance claims
  • Writing and updating safety protocols and emergency plans
  • Assist with management of the PSM program
  • Complete Hazard analysis for work tasks
  • Assess equipment guarding

Training & Documentation:

  • Develop and conduct employee training on topics such as hazardous material handling, fire safety, and emergency response.
  • Maintain records of safety training, incidents, and inspections.
  • Assist in preparing reports for regulatory agencies and internal audits.
  • Waste disposal coordination

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and suggest improvements to reduce risks and enhance safety culture.
  • Assist in the implementation of new EHS initiatives and best practices.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel to reinforce a safety-first culture.

Education/Experience/Skills:
Required: 

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field. 
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced administrative and computer skills
  • Able to find the root cause of a problem using analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and documenting skills
  • Able to work independently with minimal to no supervision

Preferred:

  • 1-3 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in a manufacturing or recycling environment.
  • OSHA 30/40-Hour, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and local environmental and safety regulations.
  • Experience with environmental permits, waste management, and industrial hygiene.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Ability to develop and conduct safety training programs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an industrial environment, including exposure to heat, noise, and heavy machinery.
  • Comfortable with handling hazardous materials and working in various conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.

Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
