Duties and Key Responsibilities
Welcomes patients to the Sleep Clinic and accompanies them to exam room.
Completes clinical assessments of patients by completing history of present disease and illnesses with accuracy and documents appropriately in patient electronic medical record.
Collaborates with provider and other health team members in implementing provider's orders.
Implements and documents clinical and technical aspects of care.
Evaluates patient’s response and understanding to plan of care by using teach back method.
Openly and appropriately communicates with patients, providers, and other members of health team.
Serves as a liaison for patients with outside agencies, businesses, and providers, establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and their family.
Respects patient’s rights to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with all internal and external customers.
Maintains established health system and work area policies and procedures, objectives, guest relations, safety, environmental and infection control guidelines.
Assists in care and maintenance of work area equipment and supplies.
Responsible for clerical and receptionist functions of the work area in addition to scheduling patients, accurately verifying the patient’s insurance, referral management, obtaining prior authorizations, preparing charts for clinic and sleep studies, scanning necessary information to the patient’s medical record, and communicating to the durable medical equipment companies in regard to the patients of the Sleep Center. Performs a variety of duties related to CPAP downloads for the patients, patient education, and general office duties to support the staff.
Assists in the delivery of optimal patient care in the Sleep Center.
May be required to support clinical colleagues according to patient volumes/acuity.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Basic clinical skills delivering patient care and clerical skills in an outpatient setting.
Obtains and maintains successful completion of BCLS Healthcare Provider Course.
Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, providers, co-workers, and the general public.
Education/Certifications
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program -OR- will be graduating within 6 months of hire, preferred.
Experience
Previous medical practice experience preferred but not required.
