Duties and Responsibilities (* Denotes Essential Functions):
- *Under the supervision of the Learning Resources Retention Specialist, deliver individualized and/or small-group academic and personal engagement coaching tailored to the needs of a diverse student population.
- *Provide holistic case management support that addresses the academic, socio-economic, and basic needs barriers to students’ engagement and retention with particular focus on historically underrepresented groups such as first-generation, low-income, Pacific Islander students, and students with disabilities.
- *Serve as an advocate for students, including historically underserved students, to ensure equitable access to support services and educational opportunity.
- *Assist in the development and monitoring of students educational and personal success plans while utilizing data collection and analysis to guide intervention strategies and outcomes. This includes but not limited to supporting the development of personal learning resources and strategies, engagement program and activities, and facilitating on-going follow up with students.
- *Organize and facilitate academic and engagement workshops to support students’ learning, motivation, and self-regulation skills either one-on-one or within a small group setting.
- *Assist with the management and supervision of the Peer Academic and Engagement Coaching program, including hiring, training, and scheduling of student peer coaches.
- *Assist the division’s Basic Needs initiatives, including food security, housing support, and resources distribution.
- *Provide programming and coaching to teach computer and AI technology skills, socio-emotional and college success skills.
- Make timely and appropriate referrals to campus resources (e.g. Tutoring, Academic Counseling, Wellness, Student Life, Financial Aid, Disability Support etc..) and external community agencies.
- Document student interactions and progress while maintaining confidentiality and FERPA-compliant records.
- Support the evaluation and continuous improvement of student learning and engagement strategies within the department.
- Represent the department and participate in student engagement events, campus orientation, college fairs, community outreach, and professional development opportunities.
- Respond to student complaints and concerns in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and assess department’s programs and services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Social Sciences, Human Development, Social Work, Business Administration, Educational Counseling or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for educational services to students and student groups; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Creating, executing, and evaluating student support initiatives that lead to academic and personal success within a higher educational institution,
- Experience working with community college student populations and barriers faced by first-generation, low-income, students with disabilities, or historically underrepresented students.
- Strong collaborative skills and experience working across departments and with external partners.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, project management, and data tracking skills.
- Experience collecting both quantitative and qualitative data to assess program effectiveness.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of educational services to students and student groups as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with educational services to students and student groups.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
- Demonstrated experience working with minority or disadvantaged students.
- Possess progressively responsible experience working with students and student groups.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups and conduct presentations.
- Ability to interpret and apply legal and policy provisions consistently.
- Ability to work outside regular scheduled business hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as necessary.
- Considerable knowledge of administrative and organizational processes as applied to the management of operations, services, facilities and programs.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Human Development, Social Work, Business Administration, Educational Counseling or related field.
- Experience using a computerized student information system for maintenance of student records.
- Experience using Engagement Coaching techniques and practices
- Experience coordinating peer coaches or mentors in Education.
- Familiarity working with community organizations for Basic Needs assistance.
- Experience working with projects, case management, tasks, responsibilities, etc. that require attention to detail.
