Job Summary:
The Brake Press Operator will be responsible for the setting up, forming, inspecting, labeling, and sorting of parts at the same time in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. The position may require on and off-site training and assume additional duties as assigned. The successful incumbent will be detail oriented, and able to follow instruction from leads and management along with being able to work well alone or in a team setting.
Press Break Operator I – Entry Level
Responsibilities:
- Ability to be trained to read and understand blue print specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Acknowledge measurement guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, template, or blue prints as coordinated by set-up personnel.
- Learn how to operate foot powered press, hydraulic press, and roof panel roller according to specifications.
- Sets stops on machine bed, changes dies and adjusts ram components.
- Installs, aligns and secures holding fixtures and dies to machine bed and ram using gauges, templates and hand tools.
- Position work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
- Push button or depress pedal to activate machine.
- Inspects parts in process or finished parts for deviations or material defects and report all
non-conformance to Department Manager or Area Leader.
- Measure work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation using calipers, angle gauges, protractors and tape measures.
- Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces.
- Clean work area, machines, tools and equipment and perform other routine duties as assigned.
- Responsible for quality of product that is produced off machine they operate.
- Responsible for keeping inventory count correct.
- Responsible for accurate labor scanning in and out of jobs.
Press Break Operator II – Skilled Level
Responsibilities:
- Must meet all level 1 requirements
- Read and understand blue print specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Lean how to operate foot powered press, hydraulic press, and roof panel roller according to specifications.
- Using blue prints an knowledge of physical properties of metal to plan sequence of operations.
- Transfer to other areas when needed or as work requires, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Able to operate the Brake Press using safe practices and procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of pinch and dies.
- Knowledge of tonnage limits as specified on the Air Bending Chart for Aluminum and Steel applications for safe bending practices.
- Understanding Aluminum and Steel bending characteristics including tubing and pipe.
Press Break Operator III – Advanced Level
Responsibilities:
- Must meet all level 1 requirements
- Must meet all level 2 requirements
- Acknowledge measurement guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, template, or blue
prints as coordinated by set-up personnel.
- Operator will have an understanding of sequencing and programming on all Brake Presses.
- Ability to work alongside engineers during product development and quality evaluations.
- Ability to train new operators in a efficient and professional manner.
- Comfortable giving direction and or leading Peers.
- Shows interest in learning additional skills.
- Shows good decision-making skills without supervision.
- Great people skills
Press Break Operator – Lead Position
Responsibilities:
- Must meet all level 1 requirements
- Must meet all level 2 requirements
- Must meet all level 3 requirements
- Exhibits strong potential for advancement into a leadership role within the company. Possesses at least 4 of the below skills and has the ability to be trained/coached in further leadership skills. Skill set includes:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES
Must be able to pass forklift certification test and drive a forklift.
