The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) is one of Georgia's four health agencies serving the state's growing population of over 10 million people. DCH serves as the lead agency for Medicaid, oversees the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) and Healthcare Facility Regulation, impacting one in four Georgians. DCH is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Support Services Clerk in for the Facilities & Support Services team. This role has the primary responsibility of supporting the agency’s mailroom. The clerk supports the team by performing manual labor and clerical tasks to include the distribution of incoming and outgoing interoffice mail and packages. Successful candidates will provide exceptional customer service with internal customers (i.e. employees) and external customers (i.e. vendors & partners) while following policy and procedure as outlined. This is not a hybrid eligible position and will report to the office daily. The clerk will report directly to the Mailroom Supervisor and the performance of these responsibilities may require frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. 

Position Duties

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Sort and distribute incoming mail (letters, packages, courier deliveries) to the correct departments or individuals daily to ensure each Division is charged and recorded appropriately 
  • Handle interoffice mail, routing documents between departments efficiently 
  • Receive and log packages, noting sender, recipient, and date/time 
  • Prepare shipping labels and documentation for outgoing packages (USPS, UPS, FedEx, courier) 
  • Operate high volume mail postage meter machine to process daily outgoing mail and high-volume mass mail-out from DCH Divisions 
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and report problems to supervisor and/or vendor when machine requires service 
  • Keep a record of all deliveries for tracking purposes and track special shipments for chain-of-custody or compliance needs 
  • Follow confidentiality procedures when handling sensitive mail and follow suspicious package protocols and report security concerns promptly 
  • Support the Facilities & Support Services Team with light assembly and carpentry tasks to include support services machine maintenance when needed. 
  • Support the agency with documents management, asset management, facilities management, and large projects when needed. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching 
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing mail bins, packages, and equipment 
  • Ability to operate mailroom equipment and perform repetitive hand/wrist motions
  • May occasionally require outdoor work for courier pickups/deliveries
  • Requires adherence to safety procedures when handling packages and equipment
  • Experience operating Pitney Bowes postage meters, folding/inserting machines, and parcel tracking systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of how to load postage, set postage rates, run batch mailings is preferred
  • Successful candidates will have keen attention to details & an ability to be proactive in spotting errors in postage amounts, labels, and addresses
  • Ability to lift, move packages safely, and have physical stamina (lifting packages up to 50lbs within job requirement, standing/walking routes) is required

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience in shipping and receiving; OR one (1) year of experience at the lower-level Supply Warehouse Clerk 2 (FES011) or position equivalent 
Note: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license
