Position: Technology Technician 

 

Primary Purpose:

Assist in maintaining and installing computer systems and peripherals district-wide. Troubleshoot and repair computer system failures. Provide software maintenance utilizing the Altiris Desktop Management system. Perform preventative maintenance of systems as required.

 

Perform on-site technical work to install and maintain computer equipment and network and software applications throughout the district or at assigned campus. Respond to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware.

 

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma
  • A+ Certification or willingness to obtain within 12 months
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License; insurable by district’s insurance carrier 

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to analyze problems and select proper corrective action in both computer hardware and software
  • Experience imaging hard drives
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows operating systems, various Microsoft applications, printers and peripherals
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Experience using helpdesk software
  • Knowledge of computer workstation setup
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals
  • Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware
  • Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs

Experience:

  • One year experience as a computer technician in a multi-user environment or
  • Worked in a LPISD intern program with successful completion

  

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

1. Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the district’s educational computer hardware/software in operation.

 

2. Systematically trouble-shoot and resolve desktop issues. Diagnose connectivity issues from the desktop to the network. Assist in ensuring a timely response to technological problems reported by the departments.

 

3. Observe and report equipment performance deficiencies, coordinate equipment repairs and suggest alternate hardware devices.

 

4. Ensure the coordination of end-user software support on various software applications (MS Exchange, MS Office, TEAMS, etc.) within the Instructional Technology Specialist (ITS), end-user community and the Technology Services Division.

 

5. Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

 

6. Assist in determining that computer equipment is in proper operating conditions and reports malfunctions to the supervisor.

 

7. Continue professional development within the profession of computer and peripheral technology.

 

8. Maintain an approachable and cooperative attitude.

 

9. Accept constructive feedback regarding performance and respond effectively to changing department needs.

 

10. Any deviation from the assigned work schedule requires prior approval.

 

11. Complete projects on time and in an acceptable manner.

 

12. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

moving objects and vehicles; work on ladders and/or scaffolding; exposure to electrical shock, dampness, humidity, exposure to environments and airborne dusts; slippery or uneven walking surfaces, occasional prolonged and irregular hours
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
