Description (Reason Position Exists):
The Development Specialist will manage marketing, communications, and multi-channel fundraising campaigns that sustain and grow the 180 Degrees base of individual donors and revenue. This is a hands-on role blending creative, analytical, and development skills for our growing organization.
The Development Specialist will create and execute a variety of initiatives and communication strategies designed to engage and retain current donors and increase giving. With a focus on new donor acquisition, donor retention, and growth, strategies will primarily focus on gift size of $1,000 or less. The Development Specialist will retain and grow revenue by developing, writing, and executing communications, campaigns, and an end-to-end process for annual giving, monthly giving, Give to the Max, holiday appeal, targeted appeals for specific geographic markets, capital giving, and more.
The Development Specialist will review donor and giving metrics, pull and segment data, export lists for targeted communication, mailing lists, and optimize data and systems for the 180 Degrees growing donor base. The Development Specialist will drive data integrity ensuring donor information is captured accurately and timely.
This position will deliver excellent service to donors, take a personal interest in getting to know donors, and will drive improvement to be responsive to donor needs and interests, and deepening engagement.
As the primary communications writer, this position will also write for the 180 Degrees website, donor newsletters, annual report, and events.
This position will work closely with the Advancement team as well as teams across 180 Degrees.
The Development Specialist does not have direct reports.
This position is 40 hours per week; FTE 1.0.
Responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Campaign Planning & Execution. Responsible for planning and execution of 12–18-month, multi-channel, fundraising campaigns and stewardship activities for all donors, with a focus on acquiring, sustaining, and growing support from new donors and those giving $1,000 and under.
- Systems and Giving Platforms. Manage donor systems including the 180 Degrees website, QR codes, and third party online giving portals including corporate and community partner employee giving portals, Give to the Max giving portals, and other interfaces.
- Analysis and Segmentation. Gain proficiency in 180 Degrees donor database, (Salesforce) for gift entry, gift acknowledgement, monthly and annual reporting, growth within gift segments, monthly donors, gave last year but not this year, lapsed donors, annual donors, and more. Analyze trends, incorporate the data, and make decisions based on the data.
- Donor Stewardship. Plan communications, events, and activities that keep donors inform, engaged, and inspired. Communications will include donor acknowledgements, quarterly donor newsletters, recognition, tours, events, and activities.
- 180 Degrees Brand. Champion and manage the 180 Degree brand ensuring all communications align with brand guidelines. Educate the 180 Degrees staff on the value of the brand.

I will have performed my job well when I:
- Develop and implement a campaign calendar.
- Create a 12-18-month calendar that includes all fundraising campaigns and stewardship activities
- Document and maintain the donor list accurately and within deadlines
- Increase the number of new donors and successfully maintain donors
- Accurately document the in giving platforms
- Ensure the platforms are updated and the data is accurate
- Document in Salesforce and report on the monthly and annual giving
- Analyze the data to identify trends and make decisions that are based on the data
- Develop a communications strategy for all communications, events, and activities that keep donors informed, engaged, and inspired; monitor the rate of engagement and develop plans to increase engagement.
- Champion the 180 Degrees brand internally
- Develop and implement a strategy to ensure internal communications align with the brand guidelines.
- Increase brand awareness across the 180 Degrees staff
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, nonprofit management, business, communications, advertising, or related field and three years development experience in a non-profit organization. In lieu of education, relevant experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
Essential Competencies:
- Possess an understanding of fundraising principles, donor life cycle, and donor centric communication.
- Ability to conceptualize and execute fundraising campaigns while meeting deadlines, achieving goals and objectives for annual giving, monthly giving, and other campaigns.
- Strong writing and editing skills with experience writing short copy for emails, newsletters, web/digital, and social media.
- Excellent skills in planning, executing, managing communications calendars, and managing multiple projects.
- Able to produce work accurately and within deadlines.
- A self-starter who can work independently and build effective relationships across the organization and within team; strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be able to accurately enter and analyze data
- Experience with Mailchimp, Weebly, Wordpress, and Salesforce a plus.

Non-Profit Location/Work Environment:
This is a hybrid work environment that requires a minimum of three days in the office during regular business hours. Must be able to work extended hours for events and special projects when needed.
