Education Facilitator RN-BSN - Day Surgery/Infusions/PACU en None

SCHEDULE:  Working 32 hours/week- fulltime.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

1. Assesses educational needs and coordinates education activities of the staff.
2. Supports and facilitates new-hire on-boarding and competency assessment.
3. Ensures nursing practice of the department is aligned with current evidence-based practice and regulatory standards.
4. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to implement evidence-based interventions for patient care.
5. Incorporates high-reliability and safety tools into all methods of teaching.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinates the licensure, certifications, skills, and competencies for staff required to care for the patients admitted to the unit.
2. Develops and implements competency-based orientation programs for novice and experienced new nursing employees, unit orientation of other clinical and student personnel as appropriate.
3. Assesses staff educational needs, utilizing data from clinical assessments, patient care problems, new clinical information, and relevant research sources.
4. Directly interacts with patients, families, and groups of patients to promote health or well-being and improve quality of life. 
5. Facilitates interdisciplinary teams to address ethical concerns, risks or considerations, benefits and outcomes of patient care.
6. Advocates for equitable patient care.
7. Provides direct patient care. 
8. Provides clinical expertise to the unit. 
9. Promotes a collaborative working environment.
10. Participates and provides leadership as a change agent in performance improvement activities. 
11. Mentors staff on shared governance. 
12. Considers fiscal and budgetary implications in decision making regarding practice and system modifications.
13. Works jointly with the multi-disciplinary team to optimize clinical outcomes.  
14. Provides coaching and education of staff to advance the care of patients, families, groups of patients and the profession of nursing.
15. Coordinates and/or teaches educational programs designed to meet assessed needs of staff at all levels of clinical competence.
16. Utilizes systematic inquiry, including the use of evidence-based practice and quality improvement.  
17. Facilitates policy and procedure improvements
18. Uses data to assess the quality and effectiveness of clinical programs in meeting outcomes.

Supports the Education Department in offering continuing nursing education activities as defined by the following:

1. Maintains compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations that affect the organization’s ability to meet the ANCC accreditation criteria.
2. Identifies gaps in knowledge, skill and practice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current Colorado RN license or ability to obtain.
• Current certifications relevant to department.
• BSN Required
• Three (3) to Five (5) years recent experience preferred, specific to area of hire.
