Job Description

The BI Analyst/Developer II focuses on the building, administration, use, and optimization of the business intelligence platform of the Business Analytics department. Includes data mining/analysis, from a variety of internal and external data repositories including, not limited to, EHR (Epic), ERP (Infor), timekeeping (Kronos), patient satisfaction (Press Ganey), financial applications, and others. Develops and implements resources and analyses through a variety of tools. Supports the business intelligence lifecycle with a key focus on working with leaders and end users as an ambassador, or liaison, to know specific operational business units to effectively complete data gathering, analyze business needs, and help implement change based on timely, accurate information resources. The analyst also assists with development, testing, publishing, and scheduling of resources to complete full evolution.

Functional roles: BI Analyst, BI Developer, BI Ambassador, Data Architect, Business Scientist, and Application Admin.

System Evaluation & Maintenance: Implements and maintains department systems to ensure optimum performance. Responds to and supports system issues/requests. Defines modifications to application software or databases to address system functions, customer needs, and/or enhancements. Conducts, or participates in, system technical and application reviews to determine feasibility, cost, service gaps, and alternative system solutions.

Application Administration: Implements and maintains organizational application assets such as Axiom, Tableau, Tableau Server, HPM, and HBI. Ensures that software remains up to date and readily available for use.

Project Oversight: Manages complex Information system projects/products in order to provide automated solutions that meet the business needs. Supports operational leadership with analysis, data interpretation, and action development with on-going performance management. Maintains system applications and facilitates updates, new releases, and system enhancements. Coordinates to assure projects/requests are completed within timetables and objectives met as evidenced by project plan documentation. Adheres to project management best practices as evidenced by project planning, problem resolution, change control, and quality assurance. Evaluates business impact present and/or proposed changes have/will have on the organization as evidenced by detailed cost/benefit, statistical and impact analysis. Develops system documentation for technical solutions and supports analyses with clear, professional, analytical support.

Mentoring: Assists in recruitment, development and training of existing and new employees. Remains current on programming tools/methodologies, making recommendations for team/analyst training programs to the manager in accordance with department budget and strategic plan. Helps assess the development and implementation of employee training/mentoring activities.

Communication: Communicates project and team status to internal and external audiences. Initiates issues for resolution, escalates and communicates status to leadership in a timely manner. Maintains vendor and user relationships and communicates status and problems in a timely, professional manner. Excellent interpersonal and rapport building skills to bridge communication between technical, nontechnical, clinical staff, and other stakeholders.

Information and Data Governance: Utilizing best practices, develops and implements plans to ensure curated data is readily and securely available to stakeholders via Business Analytics systems. Further, employee will work in collaboration with peers to ensure a robust data dictionary is developed and published for stakeholders to access.

Education
Bachelor's degree required

Experience
One year of experience in a clinical setting

Certification & Licensures
EPIC Clarity certification preferred

Microsoft BIDS certification preferred

Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to identify key business / information needs, define data specifications and/or data modeling.

Demonstrated database management proficiencies.

In-depth working knowledge of decision support systems, spreadsheets, relational databases, various server/database platforms, fundamental DBA operations, various report-writing and other software tools.

Excellent oral and written presentations skills and the ability effective oral presentations and prepare concise written reports to a variety of audiences, including Boards.

Basic troubleshooting of issues related to automated ETL processes (within 6 months if no prior experience).

Support the design, development, and deployment of data extracts, transformations, and loads. ETL development will utilize the Microsoft SQL platform, specifically SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).

Responsible for analyzing the business requirements for data file requests, designing, developing, and deploying fully automated ETL jobs to produce data files.

Basic knowledge and experience with VH data warehouses, and other data management components utilized to establish data assets for reporting, analytics, and other data integration services.

Basic knowledge of SQL writing and understanding, including ability to read & determine general function of code blocks and basic troubleshooting (within 6 months if no prior experience).

Strong skills and knowledge of Tableau, Axiom, Power BI, Qlik, or similar analytics tool with the ability to develop & maintain effectively. Expertise in data storytelling and the delivery of practical data insights in a compelling manner articulating findings clearly and concisely in presentations, discussions and visualizations.

Demonstrated ability in creating technical solutions to solve complex business problems.

Business acumen to articulate and answer business questions backed by statistics to arrive at the right answer.

Functional understanding of healthcare data models, identifying data sources, scheduling/automation of information flow, and mapping data to required file specifications.

Basic understanding of data science fundamentals and data science applications in Business Analytics (within 6 months if no prior experience).

Perform duties as Application Administrator which may include but not limited to backups, upgrades, permissions, etc. Research and update underlying tables when needed.

Perform necessary year-end maintenance tasks such as data set creation, etc.

Troubleshoot and facilitate resolution of application issues.

Above average organizational and analytical skills necessary.

Project management skills preferred.

Ability to be responsible for business and functional requirements gathering, a review of existing business model, systems configurations and operating methodologies as well as understanding evolving business needs.
