About the Team:
We are a hands-on engineering team dedicated to defining, designing, and developing advanced tools for incident and problem management at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Our charter is to drive the creation of innovative technologies that enhance OCI’s ability to analyze, understand, respond to, and prevent cloud-scale incidents. By building world-class solutions, we directly impact operational excellence, helping to measurably reduce the duration, recurrence, and impact of incidents. Our responsibilities center on developing resilient cloud services and automation solutions that elevate OCI’s efficiency and effectiveness in preventing and managing large-scale incidents and problem events.

About the Role:
As a Software Development Engineer (IC2), you will play a vital role in developing the next generation of operational tools and automation frameworks that empower OCI to efficiently detect, analyze, resolve, and prevent incidents. You will collaborate with talented engineers, product managers, and operations experts, working in a culture focused on technical excellence, prevention, and continuous improvement. Your work will help ensure that our systems remain robust, reliable, and scalable as OCI grows.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable tools and automation focused on incident detection, analysis, resolution, and prevention
  • Collaborate with other engineers, product owners, and operations experts to define and deliver impactful technical solutions that proactively address potential issues before they lead to incidents
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and contribute to follow-up problem management and prevention initiatives through data-driven approaches
  • Implement and advocate for best practices in code quality, testing, monitoring, proactive alerting, and documentation
  • Engage in regular code reviews and actively contribute to continuous improvement and incident prevention efforts
  • Work within an Agile development environment, contributing to iterative planning, development, and delivery
  • Support production systems as part of an on-call rotation, as needed, and proactively identify opportunities for increased reliability, prevention, and automation
  • Clearly communicate technical ideas and contribute to documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent technical experience
  • 1 years of professional experience in software development, preferably in cloud infrastructure, operations, or reliability engineering
  • Proficiency in Java and experience with modern software development frameworks and tools
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (OCI, AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automated testing, and monitoring
  • Hands-on experience developing automation and tools that support operational excellence, incident prevention, incident analysis, or reliability improvement
  • Experience working with distributed systems and operational data is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Familiarity with operational incident management, incident prevention strategies, post-incident reviews, or similar processes is a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in incident and problem management tools, operational excellence initiatives, or prevention programs
  • Exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and automation pipelines
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, ELK)
  • Familiarity with security, regulatory, or compliance considerations in the cloud

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $68,500 to $158,200 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
