The Junior Compliance Specialist serves as a key contributor to the compliance operations within Client Services, ensuring consistent adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role is responsible for managing a designated portfolio, maintaining accurate compliance documentation, and supporting the overall effectiveness and integrity of the compliance framework.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Oversee a portfolio of approximately 800 units.
- Review all resident certifications for accuracy and compliance.
- Review the waiting list within 24 hours for all new move-in files to ensure no Fair Housing violations.
- Deliver semi-annual compliance training for assigned portfolio.
· Complete and maintain all internal and external Compliance reports.
· Conduct quarterly review of affordability and HOME compliance.
· Update Yardi system with current income limits, rents, and utility allowances.
· Maintain and revise rental schedules as needed.
- Submit a weekly summary to the Director of Compliance.
- Resolve moderately complex operational issues.
- Prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- The ability to travel out of town approximately one to two times per month for site visits.
- Must be able to work some weekends and extended hours.
- Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, integrity, and exercise confidentiality in all areas of performance.
- Forster a collaborative and professional work culture.
- Attend company-sponsored events that relate to the development of the team, which, from time to time, may include overnight stays at locations away from the employee's home.
- Must attend seminars, training, and workshops related to compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
- Candidates must possess at least 1 year of experience as a Lead Compliance Auditor or 2-4 years of experience in affordable housing compliance/affordable property management.
- Strong understanding of affordable income qualifications standards.
· Must have a current Tax Credit Specialist (TCS).
· Must have a current Certified Occupancy Specialist, (COS)
- Must be able to obtain Blended Occupancy Specialist (BOS) certifications within 90 days of being hired.
· Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Must have a working knowledge of current Windows Office Suite, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
· Experience with Yardi software is a plus.
- Strong mathematical aptitude.
