JOB TITLE: Aide - MATRIX Job Coach Special Education
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education and Teacher(s)
DEPT/SCHOOL: Special Education
PAY GRADE/CALENDAR: Clerical 4 - 187 days

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide assistance to the special education teacher(s), along with assisting students, ages 18 to 22 years, in developing independent living, employment, and social skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School Diploma
Valid Texas Education Aide Certificate or willingness to obtain certificate (at applicant’s expense) within 30 days of employment.
Any applicant for paraprofessional jobs who is recommended for hire in Magnolia ISD and has not obtained a minimum of 48 college hours will have to pass a paraprofessional assessment exam which consists of reading, writing, and mathematics.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with students with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of general office programs/equipment
Minimum Experience:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Help the teacher prepare instructional materials.
Provides support for students in the community environments.
Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and prepare required reports.
Assist the teacher in identifying community opportunities in the areas of employment/volunteering, education, social/recreation, and independent living skills.
Maintain a regular schedule of direct involvement with the student in the implementation of the student’s IEP, including progress toward postsecondary goals.
Train students in appropriate community environments, attitudes, habits, behavior, dress, and communication skills necessary to master post - secondary goals and objectives.
Help the teachers in transition assessments including vocational, independent living, academic, adaptive behavior, LifePlan, self determination, and medical
Assist the teacher in developing post-secondary goals and objectives based on assessments.
Provide opportunities for the student to develop self-determination and self-advocacy skills.
Assist the teacher in monitoring and documenting progress toward mastery of post-secondary goals and objectives in the implementation of the IEP.
Demonstrate the ability and stamina required to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, on a daily basis.
Perform other duties and functions as assigned by the teacher and assistant director of special education.
Maintains confidentiality of specific student information in accordance with federal and state rules and regulations and local district policies.
Helps the teacher maintain and document effective communication between student, parent and community provider.
Demonstrates professional, ethical and responsible behavior in all environments.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Travel to job sites.
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
