Part Time Academic Counseling Assistant - Migrant Ed. en Merced County Office of Education

The Merced County Office of Education assists Merced County’s 20 school districts through support and oversight of curriculum and instruction, alternative education, business services, early education, technology, migrant education, special education, and teacher credentialing. MCOE is led by the elected Merced County Superintendent of Schools and governed by the Merced County Board of Education. While serving as a focal point to facilitate local school/government/community partnerships, MCOE is responsible for the fiscal oversight of each school district in Merced County, hears appeals for student expulsion hearings and interdistrict transfers and operates Green Meadows Outdoor School.

Under general direction of the Supervisor, the Academic Counseling Assistant provides counseling, tutoring, and administrative support to high school students with career planning and supplementary tutoring in study skills, basic skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), and academic subjects. Provides supplementary advisement in academic curriculum, proficiency requirements, graduation requirements, awareness to college entrance processes and vocational/career education. Interacts with students providing them with resources, and computer-aided resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The position requires an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience working in a position advising and/or tutoring people. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Requires a valid California Driver’s License. If using personal vehicle in the course of employment, must have proof of liability insurance required by law. 1.
