Job Description:
The Sr. Manager, Gas Power Engineering will provide technical leadership and direction for natural gas power generation projects, ensuring delivery on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and performance standards. This role blends deep technical expertise in power plant design/operations with strong project management and leadership skills to drive cross-functional teams and external partners toward successful outcomes.
The Sr. Manager, Gas Power Engineering will report directly to the Sr. Director of Engineering – Data Centers and Gas Generation, working closely with Copia’s cross-functional teams in an individual contributor capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
•Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of natural gas-fired power generation projects.
•Serve as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders including internal teams, contractors, regulators, and customers.
•Manage project lifecycle activities: feasibility studies, air permitting, engineering/design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.
•Oversee and review engineering design packages, ensuring compliance with industry codes, environmental regulations, and company standards.
•Manage external consultants and collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Development, Engineering, and various others to support project advancement through the development phase and into construction.
•Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and risk management plans.
•Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are integrated into all phases of the project.
•Provide technical expertise on natural gas turbines, combined cycle systems, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and balance of plant systems.
•Coordinate with grid operators, regulatory agencies, and permitting authorities to secure approvals and ensure compliance.
•Develop process, standards, and best practices for Gas generation project design and implementation.
•Drive continuous improvement by identifying lessons learned and best practices across projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
•10+ years of professional experience in power generation, with significant expertise in natural gas–fired technologies (simple cycle, combined cycle, or cogeneration).
•Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred)
•Proven track record managing large, complex engineering/construction projects.
•Strong knowledge of gas turbine technology, thermodynamics, plant operations, and system integration.
•Excellent project management skills, with experience in schedule, budget, and risk management.
•Ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with senior leadership, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
•Ability to work in the Salt Lake City, UT or Dana Point, CA office a minimum of 3 days per week.
•Ability to travel up to 20%
