Program Coordinator – Girls Initiatives 

The YWCA of the City of New York (YW-NYC) is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. We are a multiracial women’s social justice organization dedicated to addressing issues that emerge at the intersection of race, class and gender. Founded in 1858, the YW-NYC is the first YW in the United States and part of an international movement of YWs worldwide. The YW’s Girls Initiatives program engages high school self-identified girls and gender non-conforming femmes with an integrated approach to social justice leadership. The Girls Initiatives Program Coordinator will be responsible for curriculum development, class facilitation, program recruitment, building positive relationships with students; and supporting daily operations of the program. The Program Coordinator must be comfortable discussing identity, intersectionality, gender, class, race, privilege, and power with youth and understand youth development. 

Program Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily program operations of the Girls Initiatives program 
  • Maintain program office tidiness, ensuring key program and other office materials are prepared prior to class and back in their respective places at the end of each program day 
  • Prepare and coordinate student snacks for all programs, appropriate to the event and aligned to the budget 
  • Maintain timely record-keeping of receipts related to purchases made by the Coordinator 
  • Manage the Girls Initiatives mobile phone, communicating with students on a timely basis 
  • Fulfill all other duties deemed vital to the function of the organization, including support as needed across departments and programs within the wider YWCA City of New York 
  • Champion YWCA anti-racist and anti-sexist philosophy 
  • Student Engagement Responsibilities: 
  • Manage database entry, track attendance, and monitor student engagement 
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with girls to promote personal and academic growth 
  • Communicate program requirements and logistics to students and their families 
  • Manage student recruitment, class enrollment, and ongoing engagement  
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with all community stakeholders 
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance program outreach and impact 

 Program Development Responsibilities:

  • Support general curriculum development 
  • Plan experiential student opportunities through research, planning, and chaperoning trips 
  • Assist with grant-related inquiries, coordinating responses, and maintaining correspondence control records 
  • Manage and track all student forms 
  • Manage, submit, and track student stipends to ensure timely delivery to students and receipt by students 
  • Develop student surveys for student feedback, communication, and program enhancement. Monitor and track survey completion  
  • Prepare for all programs with their respective needs at least 30 minutes prior to the program start time, ensuring all materials and needs for class are ready 
  • Manage tech support as needs arise, and respond to tech support requests to maintain condition of all student laptops 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, history, gender studies, women’s studies, social justice, or related field required, graduate students are encouraged to apply 
  • Can work independently within a team-based environment, and be willing to adapt responsibilities according to program needs 
  • Ability to build supportive and professional relationships with high school youth and peers 
  • Superb listening, oral and written communication skills, including a high level of cultural competency (the ability to communicate and interact effectively with people across cultures who have varying beliefs) 
  • Successful track record of building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, and leveraging these relationships to fulfill program requirements 
  • Detailed knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the use of office computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom, Slack, and Google Suite tools 
  • Ability and willingness to learn and have fun 
  • Commitment to promoting YWCA’s mission and to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

The position is predominantly sedentary, requiring the ability to sit, bend, stand and walk. It may require occasional stooping, reaching, stair-climbing and repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing on an electronic keyboard. It rarely requires kneeling, pushing/pulling, and repetitive motions of the feet. Physical demands of the position necessitate hearing, talking, handling, and grasping regularly. Specific vision conditions include close vision reading. It requires the ability to operate a computer, telephone, fax, copy machine and or calculator. The position is generally performed in an office environment. The noise level is generally low to quiet. The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. PAY EQUITY AND BENEFITS 

The salary range for this role is $48,000-$58,000.   • 7 hour shift 
  • Day shift

Job Type: Full-Time (Salaried, Exempt, 35 hours per week) 

Salary: $48,000-$58,000 Annually
