The role you’ll contribute:
The Director of Engineering strategically plans, develops, coordinates, and administers all activities of the Engineering department and overall facility. Provides expert level oversight of all complex construction and building initiatives, RFPs and associated costs and capital requests. Directs the day to day operational activities for engineering services, repairs, landscaping, and facility maintenance necessary to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the hospital. Maintains a comfortable physical environment for patients, visitors and staff in accordance with our Mission Integration Plan. Ensures compliance with State and Federal standards relating to the hospital, system utilities, and equipment, and acts as key authority on disaster and emergency preparation and management for facility. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Scope of Responsibility * Strategically plans, develops, coordinates and administers the daily operations of the Engineering department to provide services, repairs and preventative maintenance necessary to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the hospital. * Coordinates all utility shutdowns and notification to ensure the safety of the hospital and a comfortable physical environment for patients, visitors and staff. * Provides oversight of minor construction and renovation projects ensuring timely and cost-effective completion and continuity of services. Acts as project liaison for the Office of Design & Construction run projects at the campus. * Proactively prepares facility for emergencies and/or disasters, and ensures rapid response of the department and its resources in the event of an emergency or disaster. Leads remediation and recovery efforts with multiple departments and contractors when incident subsides. * Utilizes knowledge of mold and mildew remediation to direct staff to maintain a safe, healing environment. * Maintains the AdventHealth / DOH Water Management program(s), ensuring compliance and the safety of our utility and potable water systems.
Compliance/Regulatory Responsibility: * Oversees and ensures ongoing education and training programs for all department staff to provide up-to-date knowledge of local, State and Federal agencies such as AHCA, DNV, FDEP, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies, as well as with AdventHealth policies and procedures. * Ensures applicable documentation is maintained to comply with regulatory standards. * Develops, evaluates, and implements departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standards of work in group setting for consistency.
Operating & Capital Budget/Financial Responsibility: * Responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of electrical, mechanical and utility systems, maintaining cost effective measures through the efficient and effective use of labor and materials. * Develops annual Engineering Department operations and maintenance budget consistent with senior leadership parameters and restrictions. * Develops annual plan to allocate capital funding resources to infrastructure project requirements. Effectively prioritizes capital requirements to optimize use of available resources.
Strategic Planning Responsibility: * Prepares and administers operating budgets incorporating long and short-term goals forecasting personnel, equipment, and professional development needs. Manages and monitors the department’s expenditures to assure fiscal responsibility and accountability. * Along with the Executive Director, provides strategic input and direction for facility upgrades, ensuring long-term stability and sustainability of facility engineering systems. * Understands and maintains the campus FCA (Facilities Condition Assessment) Master Plan and oversight of all associated projects.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering, Business or related field or Technical Degree in related field
- Three years of management/supervisory experience in a healthcare setting over the functions of engineering / facilities maintenance or construction.
- Five years’ experience in a healthcare environment.
- CertifiedHealthcare Engineer (CHE) designation from the Florida Healthcare EngineeringAssociation within one year of orientation or equivalent.
- ValidClass “E” Florida Driver’s license and driving record in accordance withAdventHealth policy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field (Preferred)
- Certified HealthcareFacility Manager (CHFM) designation from the American Society for HealthcareEngineering or equivalent (recognized by ASHE and/or AHA) (Preferred)
