About the Department

Under the direction of the Support Services Commander, the Support Services Officer coordinates and performs prisoner control/transport duties, court security duties, property room and evidence processing, chain of custody duties, department inventory control and coordinate vehicle maintenance, department security cameras/door monitoring, animal control liaison, and parking/environmental enforcement. The Support Services Officer also serves arrest warrants and arrests judicially remanded defendants.  Position is a specially commissioned peace officer.


A high level of independent judgment, collaboration, and strong attention to detail is required to prioritize, organize, and complete workload in a timely manner with minimal supervision. Responsibilities have a significant impact on the organization’s operations and record-keeping.


  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible for overtime and benefits. The City provides benefit eligible employees the following: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability (LTD), employee assistance program (EAP), FSA, enrollment in Washington State's DRS PERS plan, 401(a) retirement plan, and an optional 457 deferred compensation plan (DCP) with a $50/month employer matching contribution.
  • This position is covered by the Police Guild Collective Bargaining Agreement: https://www.cityoflfp.gov/344/Labor-Contracts. Effective Jan. 1, 2026, wage schedule will be as follows: $5,983 min - $7,274 max per month. 
  • Typical work schedule is day shift, Monday - Friday, with option of working a 5/8 or 4/10 schedule. Position is not eligible for remote work.  

Position Duties

Essential Functions: 

I. Prisoner Transport & Court Security: 

  • Book police arrested prisoners into detention facilities and transport prisoners to jails to and from court facilities in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner; includes using handcuffs, waist restraints, ankle restraints and other defensive sprays and equipment when warranted. 
  • Monitor prisoner safety and health while in holding cells or in physical custody and provides court room security while prisoners are present for hearings. 
  • Serves warrants of arrest and arrests judicially remanded defendants.

II. Property & Evidence Technician: 
  • Process incoming evidence, property, and contraband impounded by the police department. Ensures for the proper care, handling, storage, inventory, and custody of the items and completes appropriate forms for tracking and audit purposes. 
  • Respond to inquiries about impounded items from the public, other law enforcement agencies and prosecutorial offices; Initiate inquiries on property and evidence to obtain information on ownership, possible release and disposition; prepare and process property for return to owner, destruction, transportation to other law enforcement agencies or disposal at public auctions. 
  • Finger print criminal suspects and private citizens who may require services; provide assistance to Patrol/Detectives in processing evidence at crime scenes;
  • Deliver and pick up evidence at the state crime lab. 

III. Parking & Environmental Enforcement:
  • Patrol business and residential areas to look for illegally parked vehicles, or abandoned/junk vehicles; issues parking citations for violation of the City’s parking ordinance; 
  • Liaison with contracted animal control services and other environmental ordinances/statutes. 
  • Report potential hazards, downed signs or related situations, to appropriate departments. 
  • Assist with the management of traffic calming devices and equipment.

IV. Other Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate with vehicle maintenance personnel on the servicing and repair of police department vehicles; inventories equipment, maintains and orders police supplies and is responsible for the inventories and maintenance of the holding cells. 
  • Under the direction of the Emergency Manager, assist with emergency management activities including: coordinating disaster response or crisis management activities, providing disaster preparedness training, and assisting with planning and preparing emergency plans and procedures for natural (e.g., hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), wartime, or technological (e.g., nuclear power plant emergencies, hazardous materials spills) disasters or hostage situations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required AND at least three years of general administrative experience with increasing responsibility involving providing a high level of customer service and data entry OR equivalent education/experience.
  • At least 21 years old upon hire.
  • CJTC Certification as any general, limited, or specially commissioned officer or corrections certification. Decertified officers are not eligible.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and the ability to maintain insurability with the City.
  • CPR, First Aid & AED certification within six months from hire date.

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Previous experience in law enforcement, record keeping, and/or public service.
  • Experience within a court setting (testifying for the state).

The position works in a standard office environment working at a computer and outdoors; job duties performed outdoors are subject to a variety of terrains, under a variety of weather conditions, including sun, rain, wind, mud, and snow. Conditions may include working in right-of-way, traffic, or roadways, exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials and physical or verbal abuse from hostile citizens.

To perform the essential function of the job, incumbents must be able to walk, stand, reach, talk, hear and operate a motorized vehicle; moderate or light lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.

Occasional evening, night and weekend work may be required.
