Inside the Role

This position is the manager-role of the Transaxle team within the Manufacturing Engineering DTNA Powertrain group at Detroit Diesel. Main focus will be manufacturing process development, implementation and line support along TOS+ principles for product projects (Transmissions, Axles and ePowertrain), plant and structural projects at DTNA Powertrain locations. With your team you will support the series production in terms of change management, mid- and long-term capacity planning, and the realization of efficiency targets. This position requires close collaboration with DDC internal & external partners as well as within the global Manufacturing Engineering network to ensure best in class solutions. This also requires continuous evaluation and improvement of given standards & methods through internal and external benchmarking and driving efficiencies by digitalization activities.

Position offers a starting salary range of $133,000 – $170,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

Project Management, Production & Site Strategy:

  • Project lead and co-responsibilities according to ME planning aspects within the global Trucks Powertrain network.

  • Responsible for budget and timely realization and installation of technical equipment, acceptance of equipment and processes, secure achievement of project targets.

  • Develop product, site and network strategies and guide decision-making process.

  • Together with R&D you will support definition of common product platforms and associated common production systems to support and improve the global manufacturing network - Site and network capacity planning.

  • Be interface and facilitator for multiple cross-functional partners on peer and executive level.

  • Prepare and provide executive management information / reports / presentations on projects and work status to allow quick and agile decision making and appropriate resource management.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Planning, sourcing and implementation of complex Production Systems and Processes according to the Production Planning Process to secure required production capacity, successful product launches and changes as well as quality and economic efficiency of the products at DTNA Powertrain locations (Detroit and Saltillo).

  • Proactive alignment of goals and needs as well as supporting an efficient collaboration with internal and external project and business partners.

  • Ensure adherence to quality gate deliverables (e.g. quality, costs, timeline) for Product/Non-Product Projects and targets of defined strategy projects. Supporting Production-oriented Design (PoD) activities.

  • Intensive support of Production Ramp-Up of new lines to achieve output and efficiency targets.

  • Optimizing and advancing series production regarding achievement of efficiency targets and mid- to long-term capacity planning.

  • Driving continuous improvement and implementation of TOS+ principles.

  • Ensure engineering practices comply with government regulations and safety standards.

  • Create and maintain documentation in accordance with applicable ISO standards.

Standards, Methods & Digitalization:

  • Development and Roll out of global ME Truck Powertrain Planning Standards and Methods driven by internal and external benchmarking. Supporting Lessons learned transfer in global Manufacturing Engineering network.

  • Develop, apply and maintain Digital Planning methods

 

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field and 8+ years of related experience

  • At least 2 years of team management, project lead, or mentoring experience

  • Experience in project leadership of at least 2-3 projects (funding responsibility (500kUSD+), t/o at least one international/global project

  • At least 2-3 years experiences in different areas within Production, Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, Quality Management, Project Management, ideally in operative functions

  • General technical understanding of axles, transmissions, ePowertrain and its components

  • Solid knowledge of production technology, production processes, lean manufacturing and a solid understanding of financial processes and economic analysis

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and people orientation; able to guide, coach and support assigned staff

  • Ability to take over leadership and responsibility to achieve agreed targets

  • Willingness and ability to work cross functional and in a global network

  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally national & international

  • Practical Problem Solving (PPS) expertise

  • High level of engagement and self-motivation

  • Ability to work self organized and in a team

  • Motivation, communication and negotiation skills

  • Visual and verbal presentation skills to drive decision making

 

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field

  • Knowledge about CVDS, BICTruck and TOS+ Principles

  • Experience with creation of time studies using TiCon

  • MTM Training

  • Ability to drive innovation, continuous improvement and digitalization

  • Experience with digital planning methods
