Be responsible for temporary and permanent repairs and alterations to building interiors and exteriors, and building systems.
This position is deemed a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). A Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) is defined by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act as a person who is required, in the course of the person’s business, or occupation in connection with a nuclear substance or nuclear facility to perform duties in such circumstances that there is a reasonable probability that the person may receive a dose of radiation that is greater than the prescribed limit for the general public (1 mSv per year for the whole body).
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular routine inspections of building structural conditions and keeps proper documentation
- Perform grounds keeping tasks and other related duties as required
- Repair and perform routine maintenance of production/non-production ventilation systems
Qualifications
- Normally a Grade 12 education with 5 years building maintenance experience
- Competence in at least one relevant building maintenance trade required; emphasis will be placed on experience with HVAC and ventilation systems

- Communicate effectively
- Able to establish good rapport with customers both internally and externally
- Demonstrated ability in maintaining and following quality programs, systems and procedures necessary to assure Nordion of ISO/GMP
- Strong documentation skills
- Ability to use various measuring instruments, hand tools and machine tools
- Able to work under minimum supervision
Additional Requirements
- Availability to work the required shift(s), overtime and on-call
- Climb ladders
- Wear a respirator for potentially several hours at a time
- Work in proximity to asbestos on a rare basis. This work is well controlled and strict work procedures/personal protective equipment are to be followed/used. As part of Nordion’s Asbestos Management Program the candidate will be followed on a routine basis by the Occupational Health Physician
Training Required: Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker
