Safely transport individuals to/from GSHCS and affiliated appointments and deliver patient medications.
Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
- Safely transport patients
- Knowledgeable about transporting individuals in wheelchairs
- Maintain accurate records
- Assist with vehicle maintenance
- Assist in scheduling appointments, as needed
- Represents GSHCS in a professional manner while performing job duties with patients, volunteers, and/or other staff members as evidenced by appropriate language, dress, and conduct.
- Cultivates a positive working relationship with the CareVan Coordinator, other drivers, and supervisors.
- Maintains and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of safety policies and procedures as they pertain to the job, including transportation and motor vehicle laws, fire and disaster plans.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Maintains cooperative relations with GSHCS departments, clinics, and co-workers.
- The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position. (reference program education curriculum).
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
Required: High School graduate or equivalent.
Preferred: NA
Licenses/ certifications/ registrations:
Required: Valid Oregon Driver’s license required. Must have an acceptable driving record with no infractions within the last five years.

Required: NA
Preferred: One to five years of previous driving experience. Previous hospital experience.
Other:
- Must have a strong desire to provide excellent customer service.
- Requires positive interpersonal/human relations skills, strong verbal skills, and the knowledge and ability to relate positively to various publics.
- Familiarity with health care and issues relevant to health care.
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
The physical and sensory functions described below are essential to the successful performance of this position. Clear and effective communication is essential, as is the ability to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks necessary for the use of equipment and procedures. The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching when assisting patients, coworkers or accessing equipment. Walking and standing are typical throughout the shift. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. May sit for long periods of time.
Working Conditions:
This position is performed primarily in an outdoor environment and driving a vehicle; partially indoors such as in a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations. The work setting also involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.
