PURPOSE
- To provide maximum service to the members and cooperative by efficiently performing work in connection with the clearing and re-clearing of rights of way and assisting other functions of line services.
 - To provide a plan of development under which an employee may advance in an orderly manner through the various degrees of apprenticeship.
 
RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to Vegetation Management Foreman, as assigned.
 - Directs - none.
 - Cooperates or coordinates with all persons both within and outside the cooperative as deemed necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Experience operating tools, chainsaws, and large equipment is preferred. Quick learning abilities are accepted in lieu of experience.
 - Must have (or be willing and able to obtain within 12 months of employment) a Class A commercial driver's license.
 - Must have (or be willing and able to obtain within two years of employment) the qualifications of a line-clearance tree trimmer.
 - Must have (or be willing and able to learn) the ability to efficiently and accurately operate electronic mobile devices.
 - Requires ability and willingness to complete an apprenticeship training program by the end of the third year.
 - Requires willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a CPR Certification and learn other life-saving techniques.
 - Requires willingness and ability to work in a wide variety of environmental conditions, including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, snow/ice, etc.
 - Requires willingness and ability to participate in the on-call and call-out schedules, and Emergency Response Plan, and promptly respond outside of normal working hours.
 - Requires willingness to reside within a radius prescribed by management.
 - Requires willingness and ability to work in a wide variety of positions and postures, including but not limited to aloft, overhead, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
 - Requires willingness and ability to work in a constant state of alertness and focus.
 - Requires willingness and ability to lift light and medium loads frequently and assist with heavy loads occasionally.
 - Safely performs the clearing or re-clearing of rights of way and trimming of trees.
 - Cooperates and communicates with landowners to maintain good public and member relations.
 - Attends and actively participates in employee safety meetings and other meetings.
 - Cooperates and communicates with coworkers to maintain a safe and professional workplace.
 - Properly uses and maintains right-of-way clearing tools and equipment, including but not limited to hand cutting tools, chainsaws, woodchippers, bucket trucks, and various vegetation management equipment, as qualified and assigned.
 - Climbs trees for trimming along energized high-voltage powerlines, as qualified.
 - Climbs poles and performs pole-top rescue, as qualified.
 - Sees that any vehicles, tools, equipment, and supplies assigned are properly used and kept in good condition.
 - Uses safety equipment as needed and practices safe working habits.
 - While operating a vehicle, complies with all traffic laws, safety rules and regulations, and safe practices, ensuring the safety of the vehicle, its occupants and load, bystanders, and the public.
 - Observes and inspects powerlines and poles for hazardous conditions or other conditions that might cause a power failure. Accurately collects and reports inspection data.
 - As qualified and as assigned, assists line crews during normal daily operations.
 - As qualified, serves as a helper to Journeyman/Lineman during outage restoration events.
 - Performs other duties as requested or required.
