Role Overview

The Head – Unit and BTV will lead an interdisciplinary engineering division responsible for driving product innovation, software excellence, and business transformation initiatives across assigned business and technical verticals (BTVs).
This role demands strong strategic acumen, people leadership, and deep domain understanding of automotive engineering, software integration, and digital product lifecycle management.

You will be the key interface between global engineering teams in Germany and cross-functional units in India, ensuring that every program under your leadership aligns with global quality, safety, and performance standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage end-to-end engineering operations within the assigned Unit and BTV, ensuring alignment with Mercedes-Benz global R&D strategy.
  • Drive product and software development excellence, ensuring milestone adherence, budget efficiency, and delivery quality across programs.
  • Partner with global and local leadership teams to define and execute strategic roadmaps for emerging technologies, digital transformation, and mobility innovation.
  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement through coaching, capability building, and high-performance management.
  • Oversee project governance, financial planning, and resource optimization across multiple engineering streams.
  • Represent MBRDI in global steering committees, reviews, and technical discussions — articulating India’s strategic contributions and outcomes.
  • Champion diversity, inclusion, and leadership development within the unit, ensuring succession readiness and a strong talent pipeline.
  • Drive cross-functional synergy between engineering, digital, product management, and business transformation functions to accelerate innovation outcomes.

Desired Profile

  • Experience: 18–22 years of progressive leadership experience in automotive R&D, embedded software, or digital product development; prior experience in leading global delivery units or technical verticals.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, or related field). Ph.D. preferred but not mandatory.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Deep understanding of automotive systems, software development, and validation processes (E/E Architecture, Connectivity, Infotainment, or Digital Products).
    • Proven experience in managing large global engineering programs.
    • Strong exposure to Agile, DevOps, and Model-based development methodologies.
  • Leadership Competencies:
    • Strategic and structured thinking with strong stakeholder management skills.
    • Ability to lead high-performing teams across geographies.
    • Financial and operational acumen with a track record of business transformation.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with senior global leadership.
