Job Responsibilities of the School Interim Executive Director
The School Director’s responsibilities are expansive. As the leader of the school, the individual who
assumes the School Director’s position must be prepared to carry many different roles. This position
includes management of all areas of the school from academic achievement to personnel management and
financial oversight. Specifically, the key expectations for this position are the following:
Shall be responsible for overseeing implementation of and compliance with the Charter Plan as submitted
to the New Jersey Department of Education. Responsibilities to be addressed are as follows:
• Monitor School’s progress on the Charter Plan
• Provide monthly verbal reports to the Board and provide at least once annually a written report
covering progress on the Charter Plan
• Manage day-to-day relationship with New Jersey Department of Education and ensure that its
reporting requirements are met by the school.
• Shall be responsible for overseeing school-based operations and addressing certain of the
customary responsibilities of the Lead Person in a charter school.
• Develop and recommend to the Board adoption of a yearly priority plan, based on input from
the Board and school principal, provided the plan is consistent with the Charter, including:
Staffing model adjustments to Budget (development and annual projections).
• Assist Board in identifying suitable location and preliminary floor plans (where feasible);
assist in negotiations for lease or purchase of the facility by the School, if approved by the
Board.
• Assist Board with respect to Growth Planning, including possible campus expansion and grade
level expansion.
• Assist Board (and school principal if applicable) in succession planning.
• Exemplify, advocate and operationalize the mission of the school.
• Create, monitor and sustain a school culture of academic rigor through clear expectations of
students, families, faculty, and administrators.
• Provide instructional leadership for the school site, including: maintaining school-wide focus
on high standards of student achievement and supporting all teachers in their professional
development.

• Demonstrate a strong passion for education and youth mentorship by developing mission-
driven programs and policies.

• Create, monitor and sustain consistent implementation of systems, routines, and structures in
order to maximize student achievement.
• Achieve dramatic and consistent improvement in student academic performance.
• Recruit, appoint, support, manage, and evaluate the school staff.
• Manage all resources at school site, including: setting and maintaining a budget that ensures
fiscal solvency; planning for future needs; and ensuring compliance with restrictions and
reporting requirements
• Manage daily operations—facilities, safety, compliance, and administrative processes

• Develop an effective school community, including: working with parents to better serve
students; garnering support from community groups and leaders; and developing positive
relationships with sponsoring district and neighborhood schools
• Prepare and oversee the preparation and submission of timely reports, evaluations, and data to
all external agencies and funding sources.
• Communicate as the primary spokesperson for the school and advocate to all external
audiences including investors, media, community partners, government, organizations, and
local leaders.
• Serve as ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees and on all Board committees, providing
essential information, reports, and data relevant to the effective governing of the school.

Qualifications and Certification
• Strong commitment to the mission and vision of Roseville Community Charter School
• New Jersey Principal Certification
• Master’s degree in Administration required
• A minimum of 5 years teaching in an urban school with demonstrated exemplary student results
• A minimum of 2 years leading and managing adults
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Results-driven, with experience using data and assessments to drive instructional decisions.
• Experience working effectively with, building strong relationships with, and prioritizing the needs
of educationally disadvantaged students
• Knowledge of school law, school finance, fundraising, and governance
• Openness to feedback, willingness to take personal responsibility, and a desire to learn from others
• Unwavering in pursuit of excellence even in the face of difficult opposition and challenges
