 Summary

The Dredge Operator (Leverman) is responsible for safely and efficiently operating dredging equipment to excavate and transport material from water bodies as part of marine construction or environmental projects. This role involves monitoring and adjusting dredge settings, maintaining optimal flow and production rates, and ensuring equipment is functioning properly. The operator works closely with the project team to meet production goals while adhering to safety and environmental regulations. Daily tasks include equipment inspections, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and maintaining detailed operational logs.

The pay rate for this position is $33.00-$37.00/hour.

 Travel will be required to company project sites throughout Florida and the Southeast United States.

Per diem & housing may be available for those outside of a commutable distance to the project site.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Operate dredging equipment, including cutterhead and suction, to excavate and transport material.
  • Monitor dredge operations to ensure consistent production and compliance with project specifications.
  • Adjust dredge settings such as swing speed, cutterhead depth, and pump pressure to optimize performance.
  • Communicate regularly with booster operators, tender boats, and shore crews to coordinate dredging activities.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues, escalating complex problems to maintenance personnel.
  • Follow all safety protocols and participate in daily safety briefings and hazard assessments.
  • Assist with fueling, lubricating, and cleaning dredge equipment as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements during dredging operations.
  • Maintain constant awareness of surroundings, including eye contact with ground personnel, and recognize job site-specific hazards.
  • Possess good communication skills as well as take direction from environmental staff in all phases of field operations.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
  • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of experience in marine or dredging environments, operating hydraulic dredges with multiple boosters inline
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with diesel engines and hydraulic systems
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicle
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check

       

      Preferred Qualifications

      • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training
      • First Aid & CPR Certification
      • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

      Physical Demands

      • Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components.
      • Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
      • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials.
