David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) is seeking a Remote Sensing Community of Practice Leader to lead and elevate our Mobile and Static Scanning and UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Communities of Practice. In this strategic role, you’ll guide the technical direction of DEA’s remote sensing services, drive innovation, support business development efforts, and grow talent across the firm. This is an opportunity to lead both vision and execution for one of the most dynamic, evolving capabilities in our Geomatics practice. 

 

About the Role 

As Community of Practice Leader, you’ll oversee DEA’s remote sensing portfolio by providing mentorship, quality oversight, and technical thought leadership. You’ll work closely with internal supervisors, project teams, market leaders, and clients to ensure remote sensing tools and workflows are integrated effectively across the business. This role is part strategist, part mentor, part innovator—and fully embedded in DEA’s commitment to excellence. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Leadership & Mentorship 

  • Guide the Mobile, Static, and UAS Communities of Practice 

  • Provide leadership to supervisors and staff through goal setting, career development, and day-to-day management 

  • Foster a culture of innovation and shared learning 

Project Oversight 

  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution 

  • Ensure delivery of high-quality remote sensing services across business units 

Technical Strategy 

  • Stay current with emerging remote sensing tools, technologies, and trends 

  • Coordinate remote sensing with broader Geomatics and Marine Services operations 

  • Champion new workflows and methodologies to improve efficiency and accuracy 

Business Development 

  • Support pursuit strategy with Geomatics and Regional Market Leaders 

  • Identify integration opportunities across client teams and geographic regions 

  • Help expand DEA’s remote sensing footprint through strategic planning 

Client Engagement 

  • Collaborate with clients to understand expectations and success metrics 

  • Deliver tailored technical solutions that exceed client expectations 

Training & Quality Control 

  • Coordinate training opportunities to advance internal expertise 

  • Develop and oversee QA/QC standards for remote sensing deliverables 

Industry Networking 

  • Represent DEA in external forums and partnerships 

  • Lead internal and external presentations to share knowledge and insights 

 

What You Bring 

  • 10+ years of survey experience, including 5+ years in remote laser scanning and sUAS 

  • Demonstrated success supervising staff and managing technical teams 

  • Ability to set SMART goals and communicate strategy 

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills 

  • A strategic mindset with passion for innovation and mentorship 

  • Experience with Departments of Transportation in the Western U.S. 

  • Working knowledge of GIS, photogrammetry, and modeling integration 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) 

  • Strong industry presence and commitment to thought leadership

  • Anticipated salary range: $140,000 to $170,000

    • The posted salary range represents the typical range for this position and is provided in accordance with applicable state and local transparency laws. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
