Definition
An employee in this class will be responsible for fueling school buses, changing and mounting tires, checking fluid levels in buses, operating wreckers, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Refills truck at the end of each day.
Responds to offsite fuel outages and provide needed vehicle services.
Assists mechanics with their thirty (30) day inspections.
Assists mechanics in the maintenance of vehicles on their assigned routes and in the shop.
Operates wrecker and tows school system vehicles.
Is aware of and understands pertinent OSHA requirements.
Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safe operation.
Examine tires to verify tread depth set by State regulations to replace tires on an as-needed basis.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to operate a truck in a safe and efficient manner.
Ability to understand and follow rules and regulations regarding the operation of motor vehicles.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral or written forms.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, school personnel, co-workers, and the general public, as required in the position.
Ability to maintain and repair equipment, as needed, and according to the internal maintenance schedule.
Ability to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work.
Knowledge of a variety of measuring devices.
Ability to assemble or fabricate parts at or within arm’s length.
Ability to operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job-specific equipment and tools.

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  
Must possess the visual acuity to determine depth perception and color perception and the accuracy, neatness, or thoroughness of work assigned.
Work is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, noise, hazards associated with maintenance and equipment operations, gases, oils, and fumes.

Minimum Training and Experience
Graduation from high school and one year of experience in driving a truck and delivering goods; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have an excellent driving record.
Must possess a Class-A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with P-passenger, S-school bus, and N-tanker endorsements, or obtain within ninety (90) days.

Classification: Non-Exempt

Salary: Entry Level Grade 59, Step 00
