Job Description: Occupational Therapist Assistant

Position Overview: The Occupational Therapist Assistant (OT Assistant) within our K-12 North Carolina Public School District, reporting to the Executive Director of the Exceptional Children's Department, supports the Occupational Therapist in screening, evaluation, and implementation of intervention services for students with disabilities hindering daily life activities and participation in essential occupations.

Qualifications:

  • Accredited associate's degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant program recognized by NBCOT.
  • Completion of all fieldwork requirements.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience as an occupational therapy assistant, particularly in pediatrics.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in screening, evaluation, and development of intervention plans under an occupational therapist's supervision.
  • Implement individualized interventions addressing occupational performance deficits across various areas.
  • Collaborate with the occupational therapist to review and modify intervention programs based on outcomes.
  • Construct, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures, overseeing electrical helpers' work.

Additional Duties:

  • Contribute to evaluations through assessments, data collection, and interviews with students, families, and educational personnel.
  • Aid in developing individualized intervention plans.
  • Select and implement therapeutic interventions to improve student performance within the school environment.
  • Modify environments and processes based on intervention plans, applying ergonomic principles.
  • Educate students, parents, and staff on intervention techniques.
  • Document occupational therapy services, maintaining administrative records as per state guidelines and school policies.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, communicating student progress.
  • Manage inventory of therapeutic equipment and forecast budgetary needs.
