About the Department
Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for a Finance Technician to perform clerical duties of an accounting nature in support of the County Finance Department. Work involves verification, reconciliation, analysis and report preparation associated with bookkeeping and accounting procedures, including receiving monies from County departments, entering amounts in ledgers and journals, and making bank deposits. Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and processing invoices for accuracy and adherence to policy, and processing into batches.
- Entering invoices into the computer, running batch proofs, and posting batch proofs.
- Alphabetizing invoices and selecting for payment.
- Running checks, tearing down checks, matching check copies to invoices, and preparing checks to be mailed or disbursed.
- Filing check copies and running check registers for various departments.
- Reviewing copies for sales tax and making copies of checks that are fixed assets.
- Performing data entry functions in preparation of reports, including annual financial reports and budget documents.
Employee must exercise some independent judgment in selecting and applying appropriate guides found in a variety of manuals, handbooks and instructions. The Finance Technician reports directly to the Finance Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in accounting AND two (2) years of experience in the accounts payable field (preferably bookkeeping work); OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required combination of skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Valid NC or SC drivers’ license is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office software (Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
- Considerable knowledge of and experience with accounting software is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, calculators, printers, copiers, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for periods of time.
