THE POSITION 
Under general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, independently prepares all personnel transactions for Board of Education approval and entry into County and District computer systems.

CURRENT OPENING: One 12 month/40 hours per week position.  Salary placement will be on Range 21 of the Confidential Salary Schedule "C." Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($24.78 per hour) of this salary range.

Position Duties

The classification specification does not describe all duties performed by all incumbents within the class.  This summary provides examples of typical tasks performed in this classification.

  • Inputs and maintains, in personnel databases, various information and data (e.g., salary information, early retirement, TB clearance results) pertaining to all personnel.
  • Calculates daily rates of pay, coordinates early retirement agreements, and appropriately responds to employee inquiries.
  • Compiles and maintains various data and documents for Board of Education agenda, workshops, seminars, early retiree program and other reports.
  • Processes all unemployment claims received, notifies supervisors of hearing dates, and coordinates information with third party administrator regarding unemployment.
  • Provides information to employees and the general public in person and/or over the telephone.
  • Explains District policies as they pertain to personnel transactions.
  • Prepares queries and generates reports using HR software systems.
  • Maintains and updates HR related web pages for the department.
  • Supports and coordinates technical HR projects.
  • Researches and helps to implement technology based improvements for the department.
  • Prepares and provides printouts, labels, requisitions and other output reports to administration.
  • Creates databases, spreadsheets, and reports. 
  • Creates salary schedules.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
  • May relieve receptionist on an occasional basis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employees in this classification sit, repetitively use fingers, simultaneously use both hands, speak clearly, hear normal voice conversation, see small details, use a computer and a telephone.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification work inside, with exposure to contagious illnesses, in direct contact with the public and other District staff, in the absence of direct supervision, with a high volume of work and tight deadlines, continuous interruptions, and changing priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
 
Experience:
Two years as a Human Resources Assistant with the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District or three years of extensive clerical experience using personnel-related software to enter and retrieve personnel data and create reports from data.

  • Learn and correctly apply policies and procedures used in personnel actions.
  • Learn and correctly apply policies and procedures of the certificated early retirement program.
  • Operate a variety of office machines including typewriter, calculator, copier, and a computer.
  • Enter and maintain data using various computer systems and software.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Produce work in a timely manner.
  • Research and solve personnel questions.
  • Function in situations requiring tact, patience, and discretion.
  • Calculate solutions to mathematical problems involving, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Use proper vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Learn and accurately prepare certificated Board agenda items.
