Reporting to and collaborating with the Systemwide/UNH Central Finance Director and supervising the Financial Planning & Analysis Specialist(s) assigned, this position serves as a mid-level manager with oversight of finance and budget professionals and manages complex budget projects and financial planning for USNH.
Duties/Responsibilities
Supports institutional and System-level chief business officers and unit leads with the development of divisional financial strategy, planning, and monitoring.
Collaborates with senior administrative and academic leadership to advise on and develop systems and processes that accomplish finance objectives, define personnel duties, and mitigate risk.
Directs the development and administration of institutional budgets, forecasts, and large multi-unit budget projects.
Manages budget and finance professionals on complex, high-profile projects spanning multiple institutional units.
Supports the institution’s Finance Director and institutional financial leaders in revenue rate-setting and analysis.
Ensures procedural/policy compliance and adherence to System-wide standards, state and federal regulations, and industry standards/best practices.
Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of specialized financial reports and analyses.
Cultivates continuous understanding of context and needs to provide tailored support for business leaders and serves as an institutional budget liaison to stakeholder groups.
Coordinates with Data and Policy & Risk Management Specialists to ensure accurate and timely information for financial tracking and reporting.
Serves as a key team member for the implementation of Adaptive Planning as part of the Workday ERP implementation.
Assesses processes and systems to identify opportunities for improvement and recommends upgrades and controls where necessary.
Acts as a major point of contact and catalyst for problem resolution, providing insightful and diplomatic communications.
Provides subject matter expertise to institutional stakeholders regarding budget and finance operations and functions.
Provides supervision, training, and guidance to direct reports within the institution’s Finance Division and exercises supervisory authority over finance professionals when necessary.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
7+ years minimum professional experience in a related field to financial management.
3+ years minimum direct and indirect supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated expertise in financial planning and budget management, including forecasting and monitoring.
Understanding of and proficiency in navigating computerized financial systems.
Ability to set concrete goals, develop aligned strategy, and make data-informed decisions.
Excellent mathematical, organizational, and analytical skills.
Effective communication skills both verbally and written.
Ability to interface with diverse audiences including senior administrators, employees/staff, faculty, students and the general public.
Ability to build consensus, set direction, and lead through change.
Ability to perceive and balance multiple interests and perspectives.
Openness to 360-degree feedback and desire to learn and grow continuously.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advance degree in a relevant field and or relevant credentials (e.g., Certified Public Accountant) strongly preferred.
Experience with Change management and/or recent organizational redesigns is strongly preferred.
Experience operating or leading in a shared service setting is strongly preferred.
Experience working for a higher education and/or tax-exempt organization strongly preferred.
Knowledge of and/or direct experience with Workday ERP and Adaptive Planning preferred.
