The Consumer Loan Underwriter plays a key role in helping our members achieve their financial goals. This position is responsible for reviewing and making loan decisions within established lending limits and policies set by the Board of Directors. The Underwriter works closely with Consumer Loan Originators and Member Service Officers to provide clear, timely communication and informed decisions on submitted loans. 

As part of the Consumer Loan Department, this position contributes to the overall success of departmental goals and objectives while fostering positive and professional relationships across branches and departments. The ideal candidate bring strong attention to detail, a commitment to excellent member service, and a passion for contributing to the financial well-being of Alaskans.

This position is based on-site at our Anchorage Headquarters (1941 Abbott Rd.)

Pay Range: $24.24 - $36.54

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

90%    Underwriting Operations

  • Underwrites, reviews and decides on appropriate action to be taken on loan applications submitted by Consumer Loan Originators and Member Service Officers. Exercises exceptional judgment in loan decisions thus reducing the potential for delinquent accounts. Provides clear direction and guidance to Consumer Loan Originators and Member Service Officers on all loan decisions, i.e. counter offers, questions, loan conditions, terms, stolen loan opportunities, etc.
  • Reviews and makes loan decisions quickly in order to maintain a turn around time in accordance with the set department standard.
  • Speaks with Dealers about loan decisions and possible additions with indirect loans via phone, email or chat.

10%    Other duties as assigned

  • Able to work variable shifts within a 6 day a week schedule.
  • Meets the current standards as established for the department in the completion of all assigned duties.
  • Provides service through VIBES to all members and staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate, with some college level related classes.
  • At least two years of experience working at a financial institution is required.
  • Experience and proven ability at exercising good judgment, making good loan decisions; preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Responsible for abiding and complying with the policy for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations (BSA/AML) and the policy for compliance with office of foreign assets control laws and regulations (OFAC).

Please note: Credit Union 1 does not provide relocation assistance. If selected for an on-site position, candidates will be responsible for relocating to Alaska prior to the agreed upon start date at their own expense.
