POSITION TITLE: Process Technician
PAY GRADE: Non-Exempt / Grade 8
BUSINESS UNIT: Residential Business Unit 40-FlexBox Molding
Industrial Business Unit 35-Industrial Molding
REPORTS TO: Supervisor-Production
PURPOSE: An effective Process Technician holds safety as a value. Demonstrates safe work practices in all they do and has no hesitation notifying anyone of an unsafe situation. Can work as a cohesive team and has the skill to identify problems and recommend improvements to provide quality, on time products to our customers. A process technician has a strong mechanical aptitude for assembling, disassembling, and installing molds into molding presses. Knowledge of how to operate and adjust molding machines, including temperature control, pressure settings, and cycle time adjustments.
1.0 DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow all company safety guidelines, practices, and procedures. This includes the proper use of personal protective equipment when required.
- Performs prescribed work in a safe and efficient manner and complies with applicable codes and practices.
- Ability to install molds, including wiring the heat zones to ensure proper working order.
- Ensure timely completion of mold changes (SMED-Single-Minute Exchange of Dies).
- Places Quality Assurance materials at the press including go/no go boards and quality plan.
- Monitors cycle times and part quality.
- Place current set-up sheets and heat layouts on the cooling racks.
- Clean molds to ensure all vents are free from debris daily.
- Performs press startup and run 10 consecutive cycles of acceptable product, documenting deviations, if needed, and notify the supervisor.
- Ability to troubleshoot molding problems, make corrective adjustments and work to improve molding output while reducing scrap percentages.
- Performs preventative maintenance of molds, checking heaters, thermal couplers, and installing new ones if needed.
- Follow press schedule and make sure molds are in house and ready to be installed.
- Unload and load molds on trucks when needed.
- Provide input into new mold design.
- Responsible for sampling new molds and making recommendations for changes if needed.
- Safely operate mobile equipment, cranes, power tools, hoists, and hand tools.
- Control downtime by communicating with your supervisor recommending contingency measures.
- Provide on-the-job training for Process Technician trainee, new hires, and assist with new technology in the department when needed.
- Follow company policies and procedures.
- Always maintain cleanliness of equipment and workstation areas.
- Targeted reduction in waste of all forms (time, materials, labor).
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, group leaders and business unit managers.
- Creating and continually improving upon a culture of teamwork, accountability, and trust by modeling expectations and providing positive feedback to drive desired behaviors.
- Documenting and submitting workorder creation and workorder completion as required.
- Gaining knowledge and keeping up to date on safety, technology, and quality regulatory notices.
- Responsible for maintaining regular and reliable attendance and punctuality per company policies and procedures.
- Performing other duties, as assigned.
2.0 REQUIRED SKILL / ABILITIES

3.0 EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Prefers five (5) years’ experience or combination of education and experience, preferably working with injection and/or compression molding.
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting mold issues.
- Technical degree from a technical college and/or technical certificate preferred.
- Experience working with Engineers, Mold Repair Technicians, and Mold Makers for trouble shooting procedures.
- Capable of growing knowledge and demonstrating competence in your job.
4.0 MENTAL / VISUAL REQUIREMENT:
- Concentrated diligence in performing mold related tasks associated with current and new molds.
- Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Initiative-taking with ability to multitask in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to troubleshoot mold issues to correct the issues.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Ability to generate reporting documents and part sketches, active participant in team meetings.
- Good general ability with use of computer touch screens and written documents.
- Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
5.0 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, climb, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools, or controls.

- Capable of working in a production area, must be able to work in a tight, close environment when needed.
- Associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Required to perform repetitive tasks.
- The associate may need to be available for extended shift hours if needed and assist in emergency situations.

6.0 WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an associate will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently works near moving parts. The associate may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Due to the open environment of the building, must be able to work in various temperatures. Involves moderate or occasional presence of unfavorable conditions, i.e., cold, dust, heat, noise, odor, chemicals, etc. Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, heat protective sleeves, and safety shoes may be required in the area that you are working in based on our safety PPE standards.
