Reports To:  HVAC Tech Supervisor

 

Terms of Employment:  Permanent, 12 Month Position

 

Nature of Work

Performs skilled trades work installation, repair and maintenance of  Heating and Air Conditioning Units for all school facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the limited supervision of the HVAC Tech Supervisor.

 

Qualifications and Licensure

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience heating and air conditioning repair or combination of education and experience
  • Must hold NC driver’s license and maintain good driving record
  • Full knowledge of heating and air conditioning equipment and all related control systems

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Services and repairs HVAC systems (boilers, chiller, air conditioners, heat pumps, etc.).
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment. 
  • Installs exhaust fans or repairs fans. Changes motors, belts, bearings and pulleys. 
  • Maintains heating and air conditioning equipment. 
  • Assists with other maintenance work when needed. 
  • Monitors inventory of equipment and supplies. 
  • Keeps service trucks in good order, both mechanically and the parts stored inside of the truck.

Physical Requirements (if applicable)

  • This work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing, pulling and lifting. 
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. 
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Special Requirements (if applicable)

  • Thorough knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques used in the installation, maintenance, allocation and repair of HVAC and electrical equipment. 
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws, rules and guidelines.  
  • Thorough knowledge of the safety hazards of the work and of the necessary safety precautions. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. 
  • Ability to read diagrams and blueprints.  
  • Ability to use standard tools and equipment of the trade.  
  • Ability to direct the work of others. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.  
  • Ability to climb a ladder.
