POSITION PURPOSE
The Support Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the Service Center Clerks and Radio Room Dispatchers to ensure efficiency and compliance. This position supervises staff and monitors services which include Fixed Route and Bus Rapid Transit schedules, daily absences, and the overall workforce. The Service Center Supervisor will also resolve any issues within the Service Center and Radio Room while providing customer service for operators as well.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervise the daily activities in the Service Center and Radio Room operations department for fixed route and BRT transit systems.
- Assist the Support Services Manager with daily services and the overall design.
- Communicate solutions, successes, and opportunities with the Manager of Support Services
- Ensure team members acquire daily support, supplies and materials, training, and all necessary resources to fulfill all job duties and beyond.
- Assign tasks, gives instructions, counsels, and supports staff as needed.
- Serve as a reliable source of information for all staff, coach operators, and outside agencies.
- Attend, follow up, and resolve customer complaints and comments.
- Carry out performance measurement, monitor, and evaluate all Service Center and Radio Room staff solutions to improve efficiency.
- Investigate internal instances and follow through with results.
- Prepare and develop schedules to control adequate staffing levels and monitor Fixed Route and Bus Rapid Transit operators, Service Center, and Radio Room staff attendance.
- Update databases and organize activities related to maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Responsible for processing and ensuring weekly Coach Operator and Service Center staff payroll accuracy.
- Provide operation plans for team members and city officials for special events.
- Conduct investigations related to Coach Operators; supports grievance hearings, Loudermill hearings, and terminations.
- Occasionally transport operators to assigned locations.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Make recommendations to management to improve operations, decrease clerical errors, and streamline work processes; works cooperatively to provide superior customer service.
- Supervise and respond to Transportation and Maintenance Department issues.
- Support other departments as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervises 10 to 12 employees.
- Applies supervisory responsibilities per organizational policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws.
- Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, schedules, assigns, and directs work per the current collective bargaining agreement; evaluates and manages employee performance; addresses complaints and resolves employee issues.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:
- Associate degree in business or related field preferred, may substitute education with work experience; minimum of 1-2 years of customer service and supervisory experience required, preferably in transit and a union environment.
- Valid driver’s license is required; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Knowledge of streets, landmarks, and geography of Marion County and Indianapolis Public Transit Center bus routes.
- Ability to use computers and related technology (Hastus, Avail, or/and ADP experience is a plus), including Microsoft Office, the internet, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to operate laptops, tablets, and two-way communication devices, including troubleshooting basic techniques.
- Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups regarding corporation policies and procedures, using tact, patience, and courtesy during crucial discussions.
- Knowledge of basic mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to process and analyze data.
- Ability to track and control expenses and revenues.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively.
- Ability to direct, influence, and motivate others.
- Ability to adjust to changes in shift/work schedules.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Must be able to prioritize work and arrange schedule to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Position requires an individual remain stationary for extended periods without being able to leave the work area. May have to move or position themselves to use office equipment. May have to move occasionally between departments and/or facilities.
- Requires some exposure to machinery/equipment, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, some hazardous materials, and dirt/dust.
- Ability to travel during inclement weather.
- Local travel may be required occasionally between various Agency locations.
