JOB DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


Performs a variety of administrative duties in supervising staff and technical duties to maintain pool facilities

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Works under the supervision of the Assistant Aquatics Manager and the Aquatics Manager.

Supervises and motivates Lifeguard Shift Supervisors, swim instructors, and lifeguards.

Instructs Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Classes under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager and Assistant Aquatics Manager as needed.


Monitors the use of the swimming pool, enforces safety rules.

Performs a variety of administrative duties in the planning, development, and implementation of instructional,
recreation and fitness class, as well as other aquatics programs, sports and special events to the standards of the
City of Farmington.

Analyzes related records and statistics for various aquatics programs and makes improvements as needed.

Assists in the planning and organizing of lifeguard staff.

Plans and organizes divisional special events

Recognizes and responds effectively in emergencies and urgent situations.

Direct staff and patrons appropriately during emergencies.

Circulate throughout aquatics facilities on a regular basis, providing high quality customer service.

Works with Aquatics Manager, the Assistant Aquatics Manager, and the Marketing team in preparing, updating,
and distributing a variety of brochures, calendars, posters, new releases, flyers, and related communications
regarding aquatics programs, and lifeguard recruitment.

Responds to public inquiries and complaints in regards to aquatics programs.

Keeps current on new improvements or ideas pertaining to water exercise classes to train other employees.

Supervises and teaches Red Cross Swimming Lessons, community and school swim programs, and adult water
exercise classes according to best practices.

Handles money and operates cash register

Inventories, plans, and prepares supplies and equipment for classes, programs, and special events.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City of Farmington..

Attendance at work is an essential function of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program. This includes: preemployment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up
testing.

Extensive background checks are required.

Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.

Three years aquatic experience, or experience sufficient to perform job duties, or any equivalent combination of
education and experience.

One year supervisory experience preferred.

Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the
work.

Must be currently certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard.

Must be currently certified as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or the ability to obtain one in a six
(6) month period after hire.

Current Water Safety Instructor, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard Instructor and/or Lifeguard
Instructor Trainer preferred.

Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years or state of current
residency.

Working knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive aquatics
program.

Ability to effectively teach swimming lessons to Red Cross standards.

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers, supervisors and other City
departments. Ability to effectively and courteously interact with the public.

Ability to communicate effectively orally, and in written communication.

Ability to work a varied schedule including nights and weekends.

Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

Ability to communicate, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.

This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and
Safety program.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:


Safety and rescue equipment, cash register, telephone, computer, handicapped lift, pool vacuum, timing system,
janitorial equipment including brooms, mops, squeegees, and plungers, and motor vehicles.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to

The employee must be physically able to perform all rescue and first aid skills required by a Red Cross
Lifeguard certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, swim, and talk or hear.

The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls; and
reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or
crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds individually, and up to one-hundred
(100) pounds with assistance.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the
availability to adjust focus.
