About the Department
The University seeks an experienced, energetic, and innovative leader who is charged with being a thought leader, mentor, supervisor, liaison, and confidant to the President and other members of the University’s Executive Council. The successful candidate will report to the President and will have frequent professional interaction with members of the President’s Executive Team and other leaders throughout the organization. The Chief of Staff has responsibilities for specific projects assigned by the University President.
Oversight functions include, but are not limited to, the following: implementing the President’s vision for the University by proactively engaging in strategic direction setting and monitoring operational and financial policy and procedures; proactively monitoring, enhancing, and maintaining the University’s vision. The Chief of Staff must also ensure compliance with regulations governing all aspects of the functions. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to fiscal and operational responsibility while maintaining a foundation of integrity reflecting core institutional values.
Position Duties
- Assist all aforementioned functional areas and departments with the generation of revenue and management of expenses, payment of bills, and operating within budgetary and programmatic parameters of each function.
- Implement plans, policies, procedures, and programs that are in compliance with the University of Louisiana System and University regulations, as well as adhering to the applicable state and federal laws, while promoting the mission of the University and the University’s high standard of academic excellence and the general welfare of students.
- In conjunction with the Executive Council, ensure the University's commitment to the best interests of students, consistent with their educational, ethical, social, and physical development.
- Develop a clear vision and strategic plan for the aforementioned functional areas and/or departments that will ensure their success.
- Promote and protect the Department’s financial self-sufficiency in a manner consistent with the University’s mission, vision, and operating policies and procedures.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and proper coding of purchase requisitions and travel expense accounts for the aforementioned functional areas and departments, while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and laws.
- Provide timely and consistent feedback to the President, regarding matters involving the aforementioned functional areas and departments, and provide insight and strategic direction in a cooperative.
- Provide oversight, planning, and coordination of various other projects and/or duties as assigned by the President.
- Be prepared to represent the Office of the President at meetings, functions, and presentations where the President may not be available.
- At all times, represent the University and the University of Louisiana System in a professional and forthright manner, demonstrating integrity and a willingness to serve the University’s students, faculty, and employees and other community and University of Louisiana constituents.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- The successful candidate must be able to multi-task, work independently and provide executive-level leadership.
- Proven history of excellent administrative skills and financial management skills.
- Business acumen and skill in revenue-generational and expense management.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work effectively with multiple constituents.
- Unwavering commitment to ethics and fiscal responsibility.
