JOB SUMMARY
The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for sourcing and procuring raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and other goods necessary for production. This role ensures that all purchases meet quality and food safety standards, are delivered on time, and are cost-effective. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of food sourcing, vendor management, and inventory control in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- · Source and maintain relationships with suppliers of food ingredients, packaging materials, and other production-related goods.
- · Work closely with Customers and analyze demand.
- · Place and manage purchase orders in accordance with demand and inventory levels.
- · Ensure timely delivery, communicating any delay to cross functional teams
- · Verifies receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves discrepancies with receiving department and suppliers as needed.
- · Ensure all purchased items comply with food safety standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, SQF, HACCP) and company specifications.
- · Manage components from beginning to end (phase in and phase out inventory for new or obsolete parts, monitors inventory levels, track forecast for future supply needs)
- · Work with other team members for monthly reconciliation if needed.
- · Manage trials and first production from beginning to end (Item set up, BOM set up, order components, plan production run, etc.)
- · Work together with procurement on material sourcing.
- · Monitor and/or perform transactions associated with materials and parts ensure accurate data between MRP and the shop floor.
- · Works cross functionally with Quality, Production, Inventory and Receiving departments to identify opportunities, resolve issues and identify process improvements
- · Develop into a key user in our MRP system.
- · Assist in continuous improvement projects in manufacturing
- · Maintain excellent communications with internal stakeholders and external partners.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- · Experience in the food industry a plus
- · 2+ years of purchasing experience, inventory management, demand flow manufacturing, lean manufacturing, vendor management and vendor replenishment programs.
- · Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- · Proficiency in purchasing or ERP systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- · Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- · Attention to detail and a strong sense of accountability.
