SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Fine & Performing Arts, the Art Mentor is responsible for the supervision, instruction, and guidance of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities participating in the Fine and Performing Arts program. This position plays a pivotal role in supporting individuals in their artistic pursuits while fostering a supportive environment where students or mentees can explore various art forms, refine techniques, and grow as artists.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize appropriate methods for working with individuals with intellectual and or physical disabilities.
- Mentor and teach general art techniques to promote independent artistic creativity and oversee the daily operations of the program.
- Develop personalized learning plans to help mentees achieve their artistic aspirations
- Guide, support and train the art curriculum to team members within the program.
- Follow and adhere to the Person Centered Plan(PCP).
- Facilitate art projects and classes at Opportunity Village and community sites.
- Participate in direct care ratio and assist in daily direct care duties (i.e. eating, toileting, daily activities and bus duties).
- Work with the Supervisor to increase program awareness and visibility through the coordination of both special events and fundraising events.
- Support the creation and execution of artwork, commissioned artwork and other special projects.
- Act as a representative for the program during tours and art events.
- Create weekly/monthly progress reports and program updates.
- Conduct regular inventory of supplies.
- Ensure all purchase orders do not exceed the annual budget.
- Maintain up-keep of all program equipment.
- Attend weekly staff and one-on-one meetings.
- Provide:
- Weekly/monthly program updates
- Monthly newsletter articles
- Quarterly participant progress reports.
17.Create product tags, artist biographies and other program materials.
18. Create and prepare the mediums (i.e. stretches the canvas, frames, installs/displays)
19. Verify sale prices for finished products.
20. Able to travel between locations as needed.
21. Comply and understand all Federal, State and OSHA laws, policies and procedures.
22. Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated by state law.
23. May be assigned other duties as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not directly supervise others.
Qualifications
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Ability to facilitate activities related to fine arts, music and/or recreational and life enrichment activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, team members, and supervisors (verbal and written).
- Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
- Must encompass professional demeanor.
- Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative.
- Ability to teach in a classroom 80% of the day and to plan programs 20% of the day.
- Ability to resolve multiple complex issues simultaneously while remaining calm in stressful situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Required: One (1) year verifiable work experience as a Fine Art Teacher.
- Required: Current CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment
- Required: Current CPI certification within 30 days of employment
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.
