Nevada State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry within the Department of Physical and Life Sciences (PaLS) beginning Fall 2026. The Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry will support the new B.S. in Chemistry degree program that launched in Fall 2022.

Content specialization in any of the following fields is encouraged: Analytical Chemistry, Mining, Cannabinoid Testing, Pharmaceutical Operations, Battery Manufacturing, Water Chemistry, and other fields that support the needs of NV’s workforce. The position will support upper-division coursework in the B.S. in Chemistry degree and bolster coverage in General and/or Organic Chemistry.

About the Physical and Life Sciences Department at Nevada State:

The selected faculty candidate will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team, supporting Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Human Health Sciences. While teaching is the primary focus at Nevada State University, some scholarly activities (within the discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning) are also expected, and involvement of undergraduates in research projects is encouraged. Faculty in the department have had undergraduate research supported by funding from NSF, NIH INBRE, USDA, and NASA. Faculty are encouraged to collaborate with colleagues nationally as well as locally within the Nevada System of Higher Education.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Teach 24 credits per academic year, which amounts to four courses per semester. Lecture courses involve 3 contact hours per week and labs range from 3 (1 credit) to 6 (2 credit) contact hours per week. Faculty typically teach a combination of lecture and laboratory experiences, depending on their interests and departmental needs. Six credits of course releases are provided for the first year.
• Teach lower- and upper-level courses in Chemistry, including Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis, in an in-person format.
• Create a culture of inclusive learning. Faculty at Nevada State put our students’ needs at the forefront of curriculum design and classroom experiences. This includes classroom policies, management, and pedagogical practices that amplify the shared cultural capital of our diverse student body and acknowledge their lived experience. Faculty maintain a learning environment that actively avoids racism, sexism, ableism, and discrimination due to sexual orientation. This is an equally shared responsibility irrespective of the identity of the faculty member.
• Engage in institutional service which may involve contributing to the development of programmatic goals and shared self-governance on campus in a variety of roles. For example, they serve in faculty senate positions, contribute to curriculum design, advise on policy development, and/or participate in program assessment.
• Engage in scholarship. Scholarly activity with your discipline and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning is expected. This includes publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Required Qualifications:

• A terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D.) in Analytical Chemistry or other related field such as atmospheric chemistry or forensics at the time of employment.
• Evidence of strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and working with undergraduate students.
• Demonstrated commitment to a diverse, non-traditional, first-generation student population.
• Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Rank, Salary & Benefits:

9-month. Tenure track. The budgeted salary for this position is $78,840. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 19.25% retirement match, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
