Job Summary:

The Mechanic – Tech 1 will assist mechanics in performing maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment.  

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Helps mechanic perform maintenance and repairs such oil changes, checks tires and engages in other similar tasks.
• Assists mechanic with electrical systems such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights.
• Cleans the shop and returns tools to proper location.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Pick up supplier parts, wash and clean vehicles.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Knowledge of vehicle repair.
• Mechanical skills.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to use power and hand tools.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
• Know the difference in tool sizes.
• Ability to learn to back trailers in docks and/or shop bays.
• Proper use of PPE.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: 

• Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds at a time.
