SUMMARY 

Employees working on the surface support mine operations by inspecting shaft, maintaining the mine dump, and moving materials and shipping supplies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Perform work place inspections.
• Handling of supplies, including shipping supplies underground.
• Operate belt house.
• Load and unload material on decks.
• Manage oil storage.
• Unload delivery trucks.
• Install work decks.
• Muck waste pad.
• Sling dust pans.
• Sling below cage.
• Run shaft, including inspection and clean down.
• Manage hazardous waste building.
• Assist mechanics with weekly cage service.
• Maintain surface areas, including mine dump, mine road, and parking lots.  This includes snow removal and dust control.
• Communicate using the squawker, station bells, work bells, pager phone, and leaky feeder radio.
• Participate in Risk Assessment activities as required.
• Participate in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as required.

• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace.
• Comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations. Conducts activities and work in an environmentally responsible manner. Is aware of procedures to minimize impacts to the environment.

• Follows and understands MSHA rules and regulations, environmental rules and regulations, SOP and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities. Leads by example by adhering to rules and regulations, and ensuring compliance to rules and regulations established by the Mine Operations department.
• Must be able to work and communicate with other members of the work team. 
• Must be willing to comply with all company policies and procedures, especially with regard to Safety, Human Resources, and Environmental.
• Must meet criteria established in the Mine Operations Progression System (attached).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills preferred.  
• Proven safe work record required.  
• Excellent attendance history required.  
• Willingness to work in team-based environment required.
