DTNA (Daimler Trucks North America) is the world's largest heavy duty vehicle manufacturer, we design the Freightliner and Western Star brands for markets in North America, Latin America, Australia, and many other parts of the world.The Chassis Structures group is a member of the Product Engineering department and works to develop and design the structural backbone of the vehicle which includes frame rails and crossmembers, fuel, DEF and air tanks, heavy low and high voltage cabling and battery boxes, handling of routed commodities, mid-chassis upfit provisions, and compressed air generation, treatment, and distribution.
The position is within the compressed air team and its duties focus on design of air dryers, discharge lines, and compressor control piping.

What You Drive at DTNA
Develop vehicle components and systems. Apply engineering and CAD principles to create complex designs that are reliable, serviceable, energy efficient, and competitive.
Apply sound engineering judgment to develop engineered solutions across the design lifecycle and to support the manufacturing plants, quality assurance, and the service dept.
Develop specifications and concepts to support future vehicles projects. Maintain and organize these solutions, document their use, and keep them up to date.
Interface with our multi-tier suppliers and other groups such as the Vehicle Engineering dept, Validation, Analysis, Compliance, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing, to ensure conformance of designs to specifications, customer expectations, engineering practices and government regulations.
Knowledge You Should Bring
Bachelor of Mechatronics, Mechanical, or related degree in engineering, or a corresponding associates degree with 4 years related experience
requires 2-4 years of relevant experience or 6 years experience in lieu of degree
Experience with CADD software. Experience in CADD design of structures and/or design of pneumatic solutions.
Experience with manufacturing processes, MRP systems, and Spec Requirements tools, such as ELM.
- An understanding of the principles of fluid mechanics as it relates to pneumatics, moisture, and related thermodynamics.
- Requires understanding of key business drivers
- Works independently within guidelines and policies to solve problems of moderate complexity
- Provides informal guidance to new team members
- May lead projects or processes as required
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
Experience working with people responsible for Engineering Systems, Feature requirements, Software, Architecture, and Functional Safety.
Experience with pneumatic specifications, components, and industry safety practices.
Strong independence in managing multiple assigned projects.
Training in basic control systems design
