Position Summary:

The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic under the general direction of the maintenance supervisor, this position is responsible for maintenance and repair of the company’s fleet of vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans and coordinates tasks and activities of company’s fleet auto repair shop, working on gas- and diesel-powered vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
  • Prepares maintenance schedules for motor vehicles and heavy equipment; notifies drivers and operators when maintenance is to be performed.
  • Operates diagnostic equipment to determine repairs that need to be made.
  • Performs repairs and maintenance for company vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains database of maintenance and repair records for company vehicles and equipment.
  • Oversees shop inventory, orders parts, shop supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensures all applicable safety standards and regulations are followed in facility.
  • Plan work procedures, using charts, technical manuals, and experience
  • Test parts and systems to ensure that they work properly
  • Follow checklist to ensure that all critical parts are examined
  • Perform repairs to manufacturer specs.
  • Explain automotive problems and repairs to supervisors for approval
  • Perform air conditioning repairs
  • Transmission repairs or services
  • DOT and BIT experience in inspection and repair and compliance
  • Report unsafe or hazardous conditions immediately
  • Always work responsibly and safely
  • Maintain maintenance shop area clean
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent mechanical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine repair.
  • Extensive knowledge of vehicle, truck, and heavy equipment repair.
  • Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
  • Ability to read service and repair manuals.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to maintain service record database and track inventory.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a group setting 
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Must maintain eligibility for Company vehicle insurance 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five years of related experience preferred.
  • Vocational or technical school training preferred.
  • 4+ years of related work experienced and/ or training in related field 
  • Experience on Peterbilt trucks prefer

Physical Requirements

Must be able to physically perform repairs.

Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

Good vision to inspect repair work.

Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.


While performing the functions of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit; frequently required to talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, and color vision.

Compensation: $24.00 -$27.00


*The compensation range for this role is determined by factors such as location and required skills. The salary range provided reflects the lowest to highest amount we reasonably anticipate paying for this position at the time of posting. Compensation is influenced by labor market conditions and various factors, including but not limited to: the prevailing minimum wage in the area, relevant education, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance,  travel requirements, sales or revenue targets, and business needs. It is not typical for a new hire to be offered the highest end of the salary range. Pay decisions are made based on the unique circumstances of each candidate and position.
