The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Building Inspector I in our Planning and Development Department.
Responsibilities: Inspects building and structures that are under construction to determine compliance with the City building codes as required for the promotion of consumer/public safety and welfare; inspects footings, slabs, foundation, beams, columns, roofing, concrete, energy codes, plumbing, electrical and mechanical, etc. Conducts various other inspections to ensure code compliance including re-inspections, signs, pools, mobile homes, fire damage, etc. Reads and reviews plans for code compliance as required; receives and reviews architectural drawings to ensure code compliance; conducts final inspections. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals involved in the operations of the department including contractors, property owners, etc. in order to explain and interpret codes and regulations regarding construction, alteration and repair of buildings. Prepares and maintains necessary reports of inspections made; prepares and processes monthly reports of total inspections performed.
Job requirements: Vocational/Technical school training in building construction and design with a minimum of two (2) years building construction or inspections; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess, or obtain within 36 months of hire a SC Building Codes Council registration as a Combination Residential Inspector and two Commercial Certifications through the International Code Council with certifications in building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical. At least two certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire; must have a valid state issued driver’s license.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM; additional hours to include an occasional Saturday, as needed.
Salary: Minimum salary $50,725 a year; dependent on experience
