JOB SUMMARY:  The Perfusion and Procurement Supervisor position supports the mission, goals, and strategic plan of Texas Organ Sharing Alliance by overseeing the day-to-day activity of the Procurement and Inventory Coordinators, including all activities related to the surgical recovery and safe preservation of organs from donors. This includes, but is not limited to, operating room logistics & communication; ordering & maintaining procurement supplies; and organ preservation & packaging. Additionally, the Perfusion and Procurement Supervisor will be responsible, alongside the Chief Clinical Officer, Manager of Organ Utilization, and TOSA Recovery Surgeons for the development and operations of all perfusion services to include Normothermic Regional Perfusion, renal perfusion, and ex-vivo perfusion. The Perfusion and Procurement Supervisor must possess a variety of medical and social skills, in addition to the ability to work independently and make critical decisions within a highly stressful environment.

 

WORK SCHEDULE: The Perfusion and Procurement Supervisor is a full-time exempt position with additional on call responsibilities for perfusion and procurement services. Normal office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The employee may occasionally have to work evenings or weekends, as needed. 

 

KEY FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Provides coordination and oversight of day-to-day operations of all PIC’s involved with the surgical removal, preservation, and packaging of organs recovered for transplant or research at TOSA’s recovery center
  • Facilitates all logistics for organ procurement including PIC staffing, perfusion, surgeon, preservation, etc.
  • Responsible for communication and coordination with TOSA’s NRP perfusion providers, Organ Recovery Solutions LLC
  • Responsible for communication, coordination, and perfusion of livers with OrganOx Metra and kidneys utilizing Paragonix KidneyVault.
  • Serves as a knowledge expert on Paragonix preservation devices.
  • Maintains all iStat and Piccolo competencies for perfusion providers on biannual basis
  • Participates in COLA and CLIA certification and auditing process
  • Coordinates all NRP recoveries in conjunction with the Manager of Clinical Practice; facilitates onsite leadership presence for all NRP recoveries; responsible for all transplant center and OPO coordination related to all perfusion services
  • Coordinates with TOSA Recovery Surgeons and Medical Director to optimize organ recovery and perfusion
  • Assists with Policy and SOP development for procurement and perfusion services;
  • Alongside of Quality Services, participates in the auditing of external perfusion services
  • Maintains tracking and data collection of all NRP performance
  • Supervises an effective inventory and par level of clinical supplies including ordering, receiving, stock rotation procedures, and placement into stock
  • Maintains a material management control system to minimize waste and ensure optimal efficiency
  • Oversees clinical equipment and instrument preventative maintenance program to ensure all equipment and instruments are in good working order and recordkeeping is accurate and timely
  • Responsible for the maintenance and safety of procurement and perfusion equipment and supplies
  • Coordinates the restocking and distribution of clinical supplies to regional offices
  • Oversees expired or recalled supplies and removes from inventory or coordinates the removal for remote supplies
  • Participates in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives related to the NRP, preservation, and procurement process
  • Supervises preservation technologies initiation, usage, restocking, and training
  • Ensures appropriate discard of biohazard waste including discarded organs, tissues, blood, and typing materials and maintains appropriate documentation
  • Demonstrates and adheres to principles of aseptic techniques
  • Communicates all pertinent information to organ placement staff and transplant centers.
  • Consults/updates the Administrator On-Call regarding clinical and technical aspects of authorization, organ donor evaluation, management, and organ allocation.
  • Completes/updates all data entry in a timely manner to include but not limited to TOSA’s donor information and OPTN records.
  • Compliance with TOSA’s Safety, Quality, and Multicultural Organizational Plans.

Qualifications


REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Maintains yearly Procurement and Inventory Coordinators (PIC) competencies
  2. 1-2 years of experience as a Team Leader
  3. Strong leadership skills
  4. Demonstrates teamwork, clinical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills in a high stress environment.
  5. CPTC certification.
  6. Working knowledge of standard office equipment (computer/fax/copier).
  7. A valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance. 
  8. Possession of a reliable personal automobile.
  9. A physical requirement for the ability to lift at least 50lbs.
  10. Ability to travel by company or personal automobile, or commercial/charter aircraft.
  11. Maintaining confidentiality regarding all donor information.
