The Opportunity:  

As a Junior Full-Stack Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of both front-end and back-end components that power our AI-driven applications. Working closely with experienced engineers, data scientists, and product teams, you will help build and enhance the services, APIs, and databases that support our AI technologies. You will have opportunities to collaborate with customers and internal teams to understand requirements, implement new features, and continuously improve performance. This role is ideal for a recent master’s graduate eager to grow in a fast-paced, innovative environment. The position reports to the Executive Vice President of GeoAI and is based in our Arlington, VA office.

 

Our Technology: 

Safran Federal System’s GeoAI business develops artificial intelligence software solutions in support of aerospace, defense, homeland security, police actions, and more. Our AI-based geospatial intelligence solutions are a set of pre-trained AI algorithms for the automatic detection, classification and identification of objects of interest, enabling analysts to understand complex situations.  These solutions are optimized for use with space and airborne based electro-optical (EO), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and full motion video (FMV) data.  Safran Federal Systems is authorized to work on the full spectrum of U.S. Government classified and unclassified projects, in addition to supporting strategic partnerships for key geospatial technologies.   

 

How I will Contribute: 
Back-End Development:

  • Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable back-end services and APIs that power our AI applications.
  • Support data storage and integration tasks, ensuring performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and data scientists to integrate and deploy machine learning models.

Full-Stack Engineering:

  • Contribute to both front-end and back-end development efforts to deliver smooth, integrated solutions.
  • Help build and maintain front-end components using modern frameworks and technologies.
  • Participate in code reviews and testing to ensure quality and functionality across the stack.

Database Management:

  • Support database design, organization, and maintenance efforts.
  • Assist in implementing data pipelines and ETL processes to support AI and analytics projects.
  • Learn and apply best practices for data security, integrity, and compliance.



System Architecture & Design:

  • Collaborate with experienced engineers to design scalable, high-performance systems for AI workloads.
  • Learn about and contribute to decisions on tools, frameworks, and technologies for application development.
  • Participate in discussions on microservices and cloud-based architecture.

Performance Optimization:

  • Monitor and help improve system and application performance.
  • Learn techniques for caching, load balancing, and scaling applications.
  • Apply clean coding principles and contribute to continuous code improvement.

Collaboration & Teamwork:

  • Work closely with software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to deliver high-quality AI-driven solutions.
  • Engage in agile development practices include sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Communicate clearly with teammates and contribute to a positive, collaborative work culture.

Continuous Learning & Growth:

  • Stay up to date with new trends in software development, AI, and cloud technologies.
  • Seek out mentorship and training opportunities to strengthen your technical foundation.
  • Contribute ideas to improving systems, workflows, and team practices.

 

What You Bring to the role:  

  • Master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 0–2 years of professional or internship experience in full-stack or back-end development.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: Python, Java, Node.js, or JavaScript.
  • Basic understanding of SQL/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is preferred
  • Experience with version control (Git) and understanding of CI/CD concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Clear communicator with a collaborative, proactive mindset.
  • Passionate about AI, software engineering, and continuous learning.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • TS/SCI clearance (or ability to obtain one).
  • Willingness to travel up to 10–15% as needed.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and move around the office as required.
